Help to decide on Mexico Location

We are going to Mexico to visit our daughter in Queretaro for a few days. After that, we would like to leave Queretaro and head to a beachfront property for 5 days or so. I am thinking we can get a flight to somewhere in Mexico. I would like to go to Puerto Vallarta as it has the things we would like in a vacation. However, we really would like a nice beach, and do not like "hotel stripes" or "big all inclusives". We usually go to a small hotel in Grand Case, St. Martin, and really like that. Can you suggest a hotel in PV or should we look elsewhere? A walking beach of a couple of miles is important, and places to walk to eat. thank you

A gorgeous spot on Conchas Chinas in Puerto Vallarta with many fabulous restaurants in "Zona Romantica" walking distance from there.

That said, the beach is less than "a couple miles long".

Thank you for your reply. I actually tried to get a reservtion at Quinta Maria Cortez as it did sound perfect. But no availability. Any other suggestions? I am tempted to change my location and go to Zihuatanejo instead?

We will be going to Puerto Vallarta next week and are staying at Villa Olivia. Take a look at the reviews on trip advisor as they are all wonderful. It is right in town and a block from the beach so we are hopeful it will be what we like.

Ah! Grand Case. I remember it well. Such a great little village or at least it was in the 70's/80"s.
I think you would be much more comfortable in Zihuatanejo. Suggest Brisas del Mar on Playa Madera to stay. A fairly small hotel with fantastic views & great management. It's but a short stroll along a lighted bay side walkway & many great cafés are within a couple of blocks.
PV my first Mexico love is more comparable too Phillipsburg But busier!

I think Zijuatenejo is more what you are looking for (and I love PV).
