Help please - first holiday with baby

We are planning a trip to Mexico - Cancun area I think as a direct from Atlanta - for the last week of Oct/first week of Nov. It will be our first trip with our son who will be 8 months at the time so we'd like a really nice hotel on the beach with great rooms as we are going to spend more time in it with nap time etc. We aren't really keen on hugely developed areas - such as the main beach area in Cancun, although if i am wrong let me know! - and usually stay clear of all inclusives (maybe now is the time to break that....) BUT we don't want to be in a hotel where we feel we out of place with a baby.

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Also any info on Festival of the Dead which I see takes place while we are there - will this be fun with a baby or a complete nightmare?

Thanks in advance of your help.

I've stayed at the Royal Sands Resort in Cancun with young children. It's actually a timeshare property. But, they do rent out their rooms on a daily basis. It's consistently one of the top rated timeshares in the world, and for good reason. It's absolutely lovely. Clean, luxurious and spacious (2 bedroom/2 bath + living rm + kitchen). As I recall, I received a discount for being an Entertainment Book holder from the U.S. The cost a few years ago was ridiculously low. The property has a couple of great, family-friendly restaurants as well as an on-property grocery store to buy goods to cook in your kitchen. I highly recommend this property. We stayed in a groundfloor beachfront unit which was literally feet from the water.

I don't think you have to change your traveling style just because you have a baby. We have been taking our kids to Tulum since our youngest was 3 months old...we go every year (for 5 years now). We would never consider an AI - it isn't us.

Thanks so much for your replies. Will def look into Royal Sands. Any info on where you stay in Tulum would be great too.

Lots of places to stay in Tulum - but you have to understand what you are getting into: an off-the-grid experience that translates into true peace and quiet...a real vacation.

There are only 3 places with a/c: Los Lirios, Ana y Jose and Parayso.
Most times of the year an ocean breeze with a ceiling fan is enough: Tita Tulum.

There's a good listing of hotels on hotelstulum.com listing amenities of each hotel.
A couple of other sites for Tulum hotels: differentworld.com locogringo.com todotulum.com
