Help planning Mexico and/or Guatemala trip, please!

I am planning my trip to Mexico (and maybe Guatemala and Belize) at the moment and someone suggested a Geckos tour so I can save time (I only have about 3 weeks). I'm just not sure which tour will be worth my while. I don't want to cram too much into the 3 weeks and miss out on properly seeing a country. Any advice would greatly greatly grealy appreciated!

http://www.intrepidtravel.com/mexico...uatemala-71683 (13 days, Mexico and Guatemala).

I could add a couple of days on my own in either Mexico or Guatemala with the 13 or 15 day tour.

Thank you for your help!

hi there-we just returned from Peace Corps service in Mexico and I think the pace of the Mexico only gecko suits your desire best to not be too rushed:

I like this better than the intrepid travel one since this one avoids Cancun and goes to Playa del Carmen instead which I think is nicer. And since it is 15 days you could either add a few days on to Mexico City and really have time to visit Teotihuacan ruins which they only give as an free afternoon option on the tour. Ireally think that needs a full day. Or you could hop a bus to Queretaro or San Miguel de Allende or Guanajuato which are all about 2-3 hours from Mexico City and are all lovely Colonial cities. SM is pretty gringo-fied but nice and Queretaro is a big city with a Costco on the outskirts, etc. but has a lovely center of town which is the place to stay and Guanajuato is a smaller university and Mexican tourist town with tunnels and hills-an old silver mining town and home to largest cultural festival in latin america in October called the Cervantino. Or you could stick the extra days on the end and leave Playa del Carmen to go down to Akumal or Tulum to get to nicer beaches and then fly back to the US from Cancun.

My choice would also depend on whether you have already been to Mexico before-the 15 day tour offers a nice selection of places-the only "glaring" part missing IMO really is the colonial center towns I mentioned above.

The other tours seem kind of rushed to me.

Thank you so much for your advice, jpie. Much appreciated! I will go ahead with the Mexico only trip. I can always cover the rest of Central America later when I have more time. Thanks again.

If you are looking for Guatemala and Belize trip then there is an apt choice for you. A cruise trip !!! there are two packages 12 days + 11 night (Best of Belize: The Barrier Reef and Guatemala). The other one is 15 days + 14 night (Belize, The Barrier Reef, Guatemala and Honduran Bay Islands). The cruise ship is Blount Small Ship Adventures United States. But what is your budget?
