HELP!!! Going to Rio w/family! But need help!

I am going to Rio in 2 weeks with my family, there are 6 of us total and I have absolutely no idea what to do there. We need hotels as well...Can someone please help me out?! Also, we are interested in going some other places in Brazil which is not too far from Rio and maybe we can travel there by rental car? We were thinking of spending about 3-4 days in Rio and another 2-3 days some other place...thought about Sao Paulo, but seems like people are saying that it is rather "business-like" there...so please HELP!!!!

Chang,

I was born and live in Rio. Feel free to e-mail me, with your dates and budget, the type of accommodations you want ( an apartment, or apart hotel, maybe?), so that I can help you to sort your ploblems out. You don't have much time, and this is a busy season here. Since I'm not constantly checking this board, it would be better that you contact me on e-mail.

Please, be as specific as possible.

meanwhile, check:

http://www.ipanema.com

If you prefer to be at the beach, I would suggest you Buzios or Angra, if you prefer the mountains, I'd suggest you Itaipava, Petropolis, Friburgo, Maua. Do not even think of Sao Paulo, it's a huge business town, not at all touristic, with a terrible traffic . Your family will have more fun in other places.

Regards,

Surlok

Don't know how to post a question, but here goes: does anyone know if there is such a thing as a ONE day tour to the Iguazu Falls from Rio?
We are leaving in 1 week, so pls advise asap, DeeDee

Deedee,

Iguaçu is very far from Rio. You wouldn't make it in a day, even flying, I'm afraid. There are not many flights RIO/ IGU, and back and there are not direct flights. The flights would likely take about 3 or more hours each way. Unless you spend the night there, in Iguaçu, it would be hardly possible. Also, you'd have a very short time there to see and explore the falls..

FYI, the bus journey is more than 22 hours long.
