help for a mexico wknd getaway

I'm looking to do a weekend getaway w/my boyfriend, something very cheap...just to get away & relax, so I thought of Cancun, if you know of other specials, let me know. If I choose Cancun, what hotel do you recommend that has good food, beach, atmosphere, not too many kids? I found some specials for the; Occidental, Westin, Tucancun, Avalon...or others,we don't know, our first time. Any help appreciated. :)

Of the hotels you listed that have specials, the Occidental and Tucancun are located on nice beaches. They are "middle of the road" type hotels. Not anything fancy, but nice. Tucancun is located closer to shopping and the clubs. Don't know anything about the Avalon.

Personally don't care for Cancun. If you're not looking for all inclusive resorts, I'd look into Isla Mujeres. Lots of cheap hotels, great food and a beautiful beach. Jean

Jen...Are you talking $40/night cheap or $100/night cheap. Puerto Morales, just south of Cancun, has some budget minded hotels and some good restaurants. Check out cancunmap.com and do the hotel search...you'll see aerial views and they'll list hotel names.

You might find nicer places for less money in Playa del Carmen...
check out playadelcarmeninfo.com.

I'm not 100% sure if I'm correct, butI would avoid the Avalon resorts. They may try to sell you a timeshare while there, and waste a bunch of your time!

Jen...I gave you bad advise...you can't see the smaller hotels on cancunmap.com only the large AIs. Sorry. I'm with frankie - go to Playa Del Carmen.

Thank you to all! For all your help. :)

Avoid the Avalon at all costs. And never, never, never let them within 1,000 yards of your credit card number. We're still fighting them over a $1000 unauthorized charge to our account after THEY cancelled our reservations on us!
