HELP!!!
Just returned from delivering my son to McGill University in Montreal ...sob sob...
Husband informs me he has a meeting in Cancun --- one week from today. He's booked into Royal Sunset Hotel. Should I go? Will I be disappointed in the hotel? Should I convince him to re-book someplace else? Will I swim in the sea? Should I worry about sharks? Hurricanes???? Dare I drink the water?? Thanks to any who might respond with any information that might help. Tricia |
Yes,no,no, If you're a good swimmer--- worry is interest paid on a debt not yet due...
|
I would take any chance to go to Mexico and do so often. You seem to have a lot of worries. Why don't you buy a couple of tour books like Fodor's and Lonley Planet. They will give you two different views of Mexican travel and a lot of information that might help you decide if this is for you.

What are you worried about? Are you worried about Mexico in general or Cancun and the hotel in particular?
I assume you're somewhere in Eastern Canada - we've had such a pathetic summer, I'd love to escape to Mexico! |
All I can say is GO! Mexico is a wonderful place, no matter what area you visit. I've been to Cancun countless times and would never pass up a trip. I love it so much it's difficult for me to stay away. Just returned from my first trip to Cabo and loved it there too. Wonderful country and wonderful people. Enjoy!

I realize now that I did sound overly-worried in my message, but I now have another reason to fret. The World Trade Organization summit is being held in Cancun next week and there are huge security concerns. I've been told I'd be pretty much confined to my hotel --- so I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with it? I've seen it rated as a 5 star and a 3 star.
I gather from other messages, it is best to drink bottled water. Any worries about ice cubes or salads etc...? Thanks for all the replies! |
go to trip advisor.com and check out replys for the hotel you are staying. I did and received so much info on the hotel I am going to. Have fun

Don't swim in the ocean only your hotel pool and you won't have to worry about sharks. Drink bottled water.
I have no advice about the hotel or ability to predict a hurricane. But personally I'd be on that plane so FAST... any chance to get to Mexico, I'm there! |
Yes, drink bottled water. Your hotel is likely to supply you with this in one form or another. It's ok to ask if it's not obvious. Sometimes they will leave a couple of bottles in your room. Sometimes there are large water urns in the hallway that you can fill a carafe from. You can ask about the ice in drinks in restaurants, but most better places with be using "agua purificado" for their ice.
Salads are another matter. My ironclad rules: For fruits and vegetables, peel it, cook it, or don't eat it. And stay away from buffets. Salads and buffets SHOULD be ok at a 5-star hotel, but unfortunately, I've had the occasional bad experience and I no longer take the chance. Go, enjoy, Mexico is WONDERFUL!! |
