Has Anyone Stayed At the Loi Suites Recoleta?
The web site & the location for the Loi Suites Recoleta looks great, but I'd love to hear from someone who has stayed there. Any recommendations in Recoleta with a pool? (We're going to be there in Argentine summer).

Moving this to the top.

Actually, I stopped in at Loi Suites yesterday afternoon for a quick drink. Haven't seen the rooms, but the lobby area (where I lounged) was quite nice. It's elegant minimalism. However, if you're looking for a pool, look elsewhere, because their pool is right off of the lobby in a nice, glass-roofed garden area, BUT it's about 15 feet by 9 feet, and just 4 feet deep. More like a little oasis to step into to cool off.
Many hotels in Recoleta have off-site pools at nearby health clubs, etc. |
Havana, Any recommendations for hotels with pools in the Recoleta area? The Four Seasons looks appealing, but it appears to cost twice as much as the Loi Suites and I don't think the location is as good.

CFW,
Actually, the location of the Four Seasons is outstanding. It is also one of the nicest properties in Buenos Aires....Fidel and other visiting dignitaries stay there when in town. The Four Seasons is midway between the downtown area and Recoleta Village, and within walking distance of both. Nearby is the Posada de la Recova, an area with many restaurants and bars. Just down the street is Patio Bullrich, the most upscale mall in town....The Caesar Park Hotel is in the same area, and a new Hyatt is under construction just down the street. But if you want to go to the Village of Recoleta and want a pool, try the Etoile...located right on restaurant row....but be warned...it bills itself as a 5 star hotel, but is at best worthy of 3 stars due to its age. Loi Suites and the Etoile offer the advantages and disadvantages of being right in the midst of the Village...the primary disadvantage is noise and a very touristy feel. The primary advantage is you are there...no need to take a cab or walk to restaurants, etc. I prefer the less frantic, more refined pace found in hotels just a couple of blocks away....such as the 4 Seasons, or less expensive options such as Art Suites (no pool), or Havana's favorite, Design Suites (pool) The NH City in the Plaza de Mayo area also has a pool....as does the Argenta Tower located in a nice area of Retiro on Juncal. I have never stayed there, but the Elevage downtown also has a pool. All of these hotels cost less than the 4 seasons.... |
I must agree with drdawggy, who knows more about the area than I do. We stopped into Four Seasons, but be forewarned - FODOR's prices are way off. For 3 people, the least expensive room is $US500. FODOR's says the rooms are $US150-200, I believe.
There's another hotel called Caesar Park, just a block from 4Seasons & it's a lovely hotel with a nice (small) outdoor pool. We may check out the pool that's associated with the Design Suites & Towers today. If we do, I'll let you know what it's like. Tho as someone pointed out to me, Design Suites is NOT actually in the Recoleta, but in Bario Norte (sp). I think it's a good location, in any case. |
Havana, Thanks. Great to have someone "on site" to give me their impressions!

Here's my update on the pool that's available for guests of Design Suites/Towers. It's in a building just around the corner from the hotel.
How do I put this tactfully . . . suffice it to say that the term, "health club" (in BA) does not refer to the type of facility that flourishes in the US. In the US, a "health club" is basically a country club w/out a golf course. Not so, south o'the border. This place was surreal. I'd say it probably most resembles a YMCA in NYC that was built in the '50's and has never been updated or maintained. Totally creepy & gross, with people walking around (& in the pool) who looked like they must live in a shelter in town. I felt like I was in a Fellini movie - not a good thing. We didn't stay. So, if a pool is what you're looking for, you do not want Design Suites. |
Thanks! Just shows you -- no substitute for first-hand knowledge.
