Has anyone stayed at the Cabinas el Castillo in Arenal?

Do we need a car if we stay here? I made reservations there but am now getting nervous about being so far from town, activities and other children, with my 10 year old son. From reading different websites (including www.arenal.net) I thought we could walk to the lake, the village, sky tram and the observatory lodge and would only need a taxi for a hot spring trip. Now that we are thinking about adding a third night to are stay in Arenal I am debating renting a car or going to a child friendly resort like Los Lagos for that final day and night. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Colleen

Rent a 4x4 if you do get a car. You will need it. The road to El Castillo is horrible. All in all, I would recommend a car. You can walk to all the attractions you listed, but it'd be a hike (especially the lodge).

Kencolian,

When are you going?

Please post a trip report as we are also booked there in June and I haven't been able to find any info on Cabinas.

On another post, xerroxed said the Cabinas are in view of Linda Vista (which I believe are owned by the same people).

I also saw another post (sorry can't remember where) that you could rent a car in La Fortuna.

I tried to email the contact at Linda Vista to ask about this but haven't had a response yet.

Thanks!

Thank You xeroxxed, that is helpful to know. I have been in touch with tricolor about renting a car in Fortuna. Unfortunately there is a $60.00 pick up and drop off fee. I did not want to drive on our first trip, but now am thinking about driving to Arenal, but dropping the car in Fortuna as we do not need it elsewhere. Has anyone done this?

We are leaving on March 23, I am so excited! I am waiting on a response from the owners of Cabinas el Castillo re: their activities. They have much more info on the spanish language section of their website. I will post after we return.
