In August, I think you could just walk in and get whatever vehicle you want with Dollar. Nevertheless, we have always felt more comfortable booking in advance. Basically, whenever you are ready. Don't think you can do it too early--or too late! Online, I have had good luck writing an e-mail to their contact address and have always received excellent rates from Ivan Segura. Better than the posted online rates. You might want to give it a try!

As you may have noticed, I like ATMs when one gets a "cash discount" (which is not uncommon), just not real comfy with Trav checks nor pocketsfull of USDs overseas.
