Guatemala Solo Traveler itinerary - need your suggestions!

Hi will be traveling to Guatemala solo this month.

Would like your suggestions on the following itinerary:

Sat - arrive at 1215PM @ GUA. Was going to head to Antigua for 1 night
Sunday - transfer to Lake Aitlan for 2 nights
Monday - Lake Aitlan
Tuesday AM - transfer to Antigua for 1 night
Wed AM - transfer to Tikal for 2 days 1 night
Wed night - Tikal
Thursday - transfer to Antigua
Thurs Night, Friday Night - Antigua
Saturday - depart for USA.

My only concern with this itinerary is that I end up spending a lot of days transfering and I could miss a lot of morning hikes. I want to see San Pedro as well as hike Pacaya.

Can someone give me some suggestions, or advice on how to make this more efficient??

Are there specific hotels people recommend for solo travelers?

Thanks!

You could head to Tikal by bus or plane the evening you arrive; when you return you could head straight to the lake and save Antigua for the end of your trip. That way you're consolidating your Antigua time instead of splitting it in thirds.

Lots of photos, blogs, and travelogues below. Happy trails!

Hey Blues -

I agree with Hopeful. Land in GUA and fly up to Flores the same day/evening. Then fly back to GUA and head for Pana. Then Antigua, then home.

I just finished planning a trip almost exactly like this and this worked out to be the most efficient way of doing it. Also going in January.

Unfortunately I had to add Copan, which made plans less efficient, but you don't have that dilemma.
