Great New Restaurant in Tulum

Have just returned from two weeks in the Yucatan and have found a GREAT new restaurant in Tulum.

It is called Hechizo and is located in the Rancho San Eric on the road from Tulum to Punta Allen.

Opened in December by Ying-Hui and Stefan Schober (formerly chefs at the Ritz-Carlton in Singapore)it offers five star food, a solid wine list and outstanding service (Stefan takes each order himself)- all right on the beach.

No phone yet, so either walk in or email at [email protected]. (Only eight tables, so you need reservations)

Try it, you will be very pleased

Wow! Sounds fantastic!
We are going in April for 2 weeks, and will definitely check it out.
I'll bet the story of how they ended up there is an interesting one

Approximately how long a drive is the restaurant from Cancun's hotel zone? Does Hechizo accept credit card, or is it cash only?

Thanks

It is about an hour to an hour and a half (depending on how comfortable you are with Mexican driving)

No credit card when I was there but there is an ATM right in Tulum to get cash

Wow, this sounds fantastic. I love small restaurants with personal service. We are going to Royal Hideaway in June. How long of a ride from RH to the restaurant?

Thanks for the recommendation!

No more then 30 minutes. (Although having stayed at the Royal Hideaway, I never found a reason to leave)

"Hechizo" = "Witchcraft"

It usually means black magic or malevolent magic in Yucatan. Obviously, this restaurant does white magic.

Just made a reservation for Hechizo- we're going to Tulum in a month- and the owners are already charming in their reply. Just be advised, their email address is [email protected] (not "herchizo"- I'm sure it was just a typo. Thanks for the thoughts and will report back.

There is an alteranative translation of Hechizo other than "Witchcraft" The addional transaltion is "Homemade" You will have to ask Stefan for his take on the translation.

Stefan is the son of the owwners and caretakers of "Rancho San Eric" We stasyed here in April of 2004. We had a great meal and a lovely week long visit. We ate at the restaurant twice.
