Great Cancun Vacations

My husband and I are going to Cancun and have heard that Great Cancun Vacations has the best deals on the Palace Resorts. We're planning on staying at the Aventura and they do appear to have great prices. Are they too good to be true? I only want to make sure they are on the up and up. Has anyone used them in the past and how was your experience? Thanks.

Don't know if i'm the original one u heard it from on this board, but we just used them for a trip in November. I too was skeptical due to their great prices, but we went with it and had no problems. Also, Pat is great and will answer all the questions you have (and i had many).

Yes, you're the one I first heard it from. I was just hoping for some reinforcement. We changed our minds and decided that the Aventura looked a little better. I went to a travel agency and they quoted me a price of $3700, much more than Great Cancun is offering. Was afraid that things that appear to be too good to be true often are.

By the way, did you purchase the travel insurance?

We did not purchase insurance.

I haven't read too much about Great-Cancun-Vacations which is why i prefaced my reply with "i might have been the person you heard about it from."

From what i learned booking our trip, the cheapest way to go to any Palace resorts is thru a "member". You probably know that all the Palace resorts are timeshare properties. It was explained to me that when they first opened you became a member and were allowed unlimited weeks at your member price (unlimited weeks are no longer offered for new members and you are given specific weeks to take your vacation). The above company signed up as members early on in order to start a side business, which is why thier rates are so good.

There are other sites run by "members" which would be MUCH cheaper than what you were offered from the travel agency, but i found Great Cancun Vacations to be the cheapest of the members' sites that i saw. We also only wanted to go for 5days/4nites and many of the others only sold full weeks.

Some things that made me feel more comfortable booking thru them were: no complaints with their local BBB, i figured if they screwed people often there would at least be a few complaints on file. Also, you pay them a fee which then allows you to use their membership number to book directly with the "in-house" travel agent of the Palace resorts at the member's rate. The amount paid to the travel agency is refundable up to 3 days before arrival (at least it was when we booked) so i figured if the whole thing blew up on me after i booked (but at least 3 days before arrival) i would only be out the fee i paid to Great Cancun Vacations which was minimal... it was a risk i was willing to take.

However, i am happy to report that we had no problems and would use them again if we planned on returning to a Palace resort.

Whoever u go with, don't go to the "specail breakfasts" or the "tour of the property" as they are just timeshare presentations in disguise.
