Granada or Leon

Myself and my husband are doing a retreat in Nicaragua in April... at a beach resort near Aposentillo, Nicaragua. Likely we fly into Managua... we are leaving our kids for this retreat so we don't want to take too much longer, but we'd like to take 1-2 days to see something other than the beach. We are outdoorsy, water-loving people, but like exploring cities too. My question is - with that little time - are we better off seeing Granada or Leon?

Thanks for your help.

I had to Google Aposentillo. It looks like it's on the north Pacific coast. That puts you a lot closer to Leon.

Yes, I agree. However, if Granada were that much more spectacular, then that's where I would go. That's what I meant. :) Have you been to both?

I've been to both many times. I like Granada better, as I think most people do, based on visitor numbers. Granada's tourism infrastructure is a lot more developed. It has a better selection of hotels and restaurants and more of a tourist vibe. (That's a reason some people prefer Leon. ;) ) Granada has always had more money to put into the restoration of its colonial buildings than Leon has. It just seems a little better kept up to me.

Unrelated to you question, brace yourself for the heat. April is very hot in Nicaragua.
