Good Honeymoon?
 

My fiance and I have been toying with some honeymoon ideas for next september. I have received many good ideas from reading the post so far. After looking at some post I just wanted to get peoples thoughts on the Iguana Lodge and Bosque del Cabo. We were thinking about spending a few days at each. We were also wondering about how private they were? Any thoughts/suggestions would be great :)

Bosque is a fantastic place, on my last trip there were 3 honeymooners at the time and as far as privacy....well I heard one of them one night :) So I wouldn't say they're extremely private noise-wise, but they way they are angled you really don't have to worry about someone spotting you if you hang on the deck in your pj's. If you're into wildlife, nature, plants et al then it's one of the best places! Check around the forum for dfarmer's trip report, she did a split between these two as well.

tully, have you ever stayed at the iguana lodge? we are thinking we might like to spend more time actually on the beach.

No haven't stayed there. Being a couple miles away from beautiful beaches here in FL has left me not much of a beach person in regards to vacations. You can reach the beach from BdC but their other options (all the trails etc) left me with so much more to do.

I want to remind you that September is very deep into the rainy season in Costa Rica ("deep" as in muddy and wet to the max, particularly in the Osa area).

That being said, it is the exact opposite on the Caribbean side of the country. September and October are the very best months to visit the Caribbean. Quite dry and with few visitors. I highly recommend Almonds & Corals, a "luxury tent lodge" in the far southern corner of the Caribbean. The new, upgrade luxury tents include hot water, fridge, king-size beds and a jacuzzi in the room - all under a huge tent perched on a wooden deck and covered with mosquito netting. Deep in the jungle but only a short pathway down to one of the most private and beautiful beaches in all of Costa Rica.

I cannot imagine any place (other than Playa Nicuesa in the Osa Peninsula region) that would be more romantic for a honeymoon than Almonds & Corals, one of Costa Rica's most undiscovered magical places.

raderbarbarian makes a strong point regarding the weather in September. The Osa is WAY too rainy during September and October (haven't been there during that time, but got that information from Philip at Bosque del Cabo) to really enjoy everything it has to offer.

And it IS a great time to visit the Caribbean side--including the lodges of Tortuguero. It would be a lot of fun to combine a couple of nights there with some time in the southern Caribbean area. Almonds & Corals is a fun place to stay--very close to the "end of the road" at Manzanillo. My daughter and I had great time there. This past summer, my husband and I also enjoyed our time at Azania Bungalows. . .and then there is the Beach House, the Tree House, and the Beach Suite. One thing, though, that I remember about Almonds & Corals--the beach was beautiful but unswimmable. There were warning signs not to go into the water--strong riptides. I didn't need to be told twice. There is a very nice and swimmable area a short walk down the beach (or up the beach, rather, to the north).

A recent poster--Misha, I think--spent her October honeymoon in Costa Rica and they really seemed to enjoy the Beach Suite or House, whichever one they stayed at. Maybe you could pull up her trip report and look at their itinerary.
