Liaw! I have ben visiting tulum for the past 10 years. It is the perfect short flight from NY to paradise! I highly recommend Tierras del Sol ([email protected]), Hotel Petit Shambala ([email protected]) and just beyond tulum beaches in sian kaan, sol caribe. sol caribe is remote but the couple who run it are amazing and wonderful cooks. It is true that Zamas and other popular hotels like Maya Tulum do not have the best beaches. There are large rocks and usually a large accumulation of sea weed around there. The south end of the beach is unbelievable. Have a great trip!!!!

Is the south end of the beach near the biosphere? That's where Suenos de Tulum is and I keep hearing that their beach is amazing... I can't wait to go. Counting down the days! Thanks for the recs.

I can't help you with a hotel in Tulum. However, we stayed on the Mayan Riviera, and loved it. There are so many hotels to choose from. We stayed at Aventura Spa Palace (PalaceResorts.com), and it was perfect. It was adults-only, and we barely spent any time at the resort because there was just so much to do- we went to Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Aktun Chen, Tulum, Chichen-Itza, etc.

Here's my review of Aventura Spa:

Sorry, meant to add - I have a ton of pics... if you are interested, drop me a line, I'd be more than happy to share. Also, the bottom of my Aventura review has links to all the other places we visited.

I don't know why my e-mail address didn't show up right - it's [email protected] or [email protected].
