Going to Cancun

Let me start by saying this is the best message board I've ever seen!!! My husband and I along with 3 other couples are planning a trip to Mexico, but I am suffering from sensory overload!!! There is so much information, I can't decide where to go, where to stay, to do all inclusive or not, etc. At this point, we are considering staying at Oasis Cancun, Oasis Playa, Fiesta Americana Coral Beach, or the Yalmakan. We don't know just how "posh" these resorts are...we don't need the Ritz, but don't want the quality of Holiday Inn either. Can anyone help???

Please stay at the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. It is a 6 star Gran tourismo hotel.Any of the Fiesta Americana hotels are great. But this one is the top of the line. I stay at the Fiesta Americana Cancun, which is smaller. They are only one hotel away from each other. And are near just about everything. I don't think you will be disappointed if yiu did. On the other hand I have stayed at the Oasis..please don't.

I second what Sue has said. If you're not interested in the Ritz, then the Coral Beach is definitely the ONE!! It's also on the CALM BAY side, rather than rolling surf side, if that's any concern to you. GREAT HOTEL!!

I highly recommend the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. It is absolutely fabulous. We were there early February of 1999. It is expensive. The breakfast buffet is awesome. It is right in the heart of shopping malls, restaurants, and across the road from the convention center. The beach is crowded, but the ocean is fairly calm and nice for kids. There are various water sports offered right there. Our rooms were incredible with marble floors, sunken sitting areas and balconies that overlook the ocean. Make sure to lock up your valuables in the safe. We had some cash taken that was not locked up. We would definitely stay there again though. Have a great time.

Hi Suanne,

I don't know when you and your husband and friends are planning your trip but Mexico is one of my favorite places to go. I have never stayed in the hotels mentioned but they are lovely from the outside! I do have a suggestion if you want more information on activities or a possible package, I know someone in Cancun who is a very professional travel/tour representative. She arranged some trips for me and I had a good time. Her name is Paola Vigueras and her e-mail address is: [email protected]. She speaks excellent English and is just a sweetheart of a person. You will enjoy her professionalism very much. Have fun, I was just there form 9/24 - 10/1 and spent part of my time in Cancun and part in Cozumel. I can't wait to go back. If you talk to Paola, please tell her DeLeta said hola. DeLeta

Hi,

I will be traveling down to Cancun with my son for the millenium. I am reading these other posts on the message boards concerning how wild Cancun is. I have never been there and I am concerned about traveling down there with an 11 year old. Are my concerns valid...? Please also email me as I do not always have access to the net. Thanks.

My husband and I have been down 5 times and have never had or seen any trouble. We are going back in less then 3 weeks and wouldn't do that if there was anything to worry about. We go to relax and get away from the hustle of the city.

Robert, the "wildness" only occurs during Spring break, so avoid it like the plague!!

Grant Nov 6th, 1999 08:23 PM

We stayed at the Oasis Cancun 02/99 - 03/99. Spring break was the general theme, but we stayed in the Grand
building which was quiet and a little more upscale. The grounds, facilities and beach were gorgeous. Too bad the the "hotel policies" spoiled everything!
The hotel security checked your bags on each entry and would not even allow bottled water to be brought in. Of course you could buy all you wanted from the hotel at prices 5 times that of the store across the street. Forget about ordering in a pizza or bringing in a Big Mac! They even monitored stores a block away and radioded back to the lobby guards if anyone had made a purchase so that they could be checked on entry. Ask for a copy of your hotel policies BEFORE you book your trip.We had no problems with the spring-breakers, but they were obviously having a wild time. Saw cameras confiscated and destroyed by hotel staff on the beach during "wet T-shirt" events. "F'ing white boy" seemed to be a favourite phrase of the beachfront M.C.

Susanne

I think you have heard it all. I just want to give the view of a local (I live in Mexico). Coral Beach is the place to go, centric yet calm and great facilities. Please set time apart for Xcaret, Tulum, Isla Mujeres and Chichen Itza.
