Going to Antigua , Guatemala for a wedding ,
We are looking for something special , close to the main square and safe. We will be there for 3 nights .Has anyone stayed in the Casa Santa Domingo?

If the wedding is there by all means stay there. if it is out of your budget I like the Hotel Aurora, just a block off the square. Santo Domingo is wonderful! The walk to the square is fine & taxis are plentiful. Antigua is safe if you use your head, no walking around at night, daytime is fine. Leave ALL jewelry & your big purse at home.

My husband saw the Santo Domingo grounds and museums on a trip to Antigua last year and said it looks like a wonderful place to stay. He is usually not one to splurge on hotels but said this one would be worth it.

We stayed at the Florencia for most of our time in Antigua, but splurged at the end of our trip to stay at the Santo Domingo. It was wonderful! We had taken Elizabeth Bell's walking tour which ends at the Santo Domingo and I asked her how much it cost to stay there. She got us a really good rate (I think it was $116 + taxes) so we decided to go for it for our last night. It was definitely a splurge - our other hotel was $45 (and that included tax), but for 1 night, it was definitely worth it. The rate posted at the hotel was way more than the rate that Elizabeth got us.
