Getting around in Arenal

Is it dificult to get around in Arenal without a car? For instance, leaving the Tabacon hot springs and going to the Paraiso or from there to the hanging bridge. We plan to go to Avenal and Monteverde so hadn't thought we needed a car. Advice, anyone?

Taxis are relatively inexpensive--you won't have a problem!

Joanna,

You can get taxis, but be prepared for a wait. Also, if you are more than 4 people, you might need 2 taxis. We were at the AP in August and had to wait about 45 minutes for 2 taxis, because there was not a van-type taxi available. Both Tabacon and the Hanging Bridges are quite a ways from La Fortuna, where the taxis are stationed.

The good thing is, since you're not driving, you can have another cocktail while you wait ((d)) and enjoy the Pura Vida ;) .

yeh taxis are pretty cheap but wanted to let you know that if you go up to the Arenal National Park, make sure you've arranged a taxi to come back for you at a certain time. They have no phone up there contrary to what our hotel told us so we had to walk a short distance before hitching a ride with a nice tourist. They do have a public bus but not sure of their schedule.

joanna: just arrange for the taxis in advance. Not a problem. A car is a detriment in and around Monteverde.

We never waited more than 5 minutes for a taxi in Monteverde. This was in January.
