Galapagos - Which company AND ...

Hi - I hope some of you will offer me the information I need. Which tour company did you use AND WAS THERE ALOT OF ILLNESS aboard the ship. We're already booked with Celebrity's Xpedition but I hear awful things about 1/2 of the passengers being sick each and every voyage. I also hear this does not occur on most other ships, so...please let me know. Thanks so much.

I think it's just a matter of luck. A few of the passengers on our boat (we were not on the Xpedition) did get sick. One couple had just arrived from the Amazon and the husband was already ill when they boarded the vessel. Of course, that tends to spread in a close, contained environment, so a few other people picked it up as well. I don't think there's much you can do about it.

Patty - Thanks. Which boat were you on? Did you spend time in Quito beforehand? Again, thanks for replying

We were on the Archipel which was a comfortable first class (not luxury) catamaran that held 16 passengers. I can highly recommend it. We spent one night in Quito (only to sleep) before heading to the Galapagos the following morning and on our return spent 4 nights on the mainland in Quito and at Bellavista cloud forest.

We booked through galapagosonline.com. Teresa, the owner, was extremely well informed and helpful. We went on the Eclipse, which carries about 46 passengers. No one got sick, and the boat, crew and guides were outstanding. We did spend two days in Quito before going to the Galapagos. Teresa had arranged a guide for us, who showed us the old city, the Equator Monument and Museum, the statue of the Winged Virgin, the indian market, etc. Definitely worth doing.

Thank you Mjulius - When did you go? I will definitely check that site out.
