Galapagos Cruise - Alta or Lammer Law?
 

Hello:
Could anyone give me their opinions on either of these two boats? We are looking at Alta or Lammer Law (nature or active cruise -not the diving cruise).

Lammer Law appears to stop on one extra island, but we are having a difficult time deciding..

Any advice would be nice.

Here's another post I thought someone could shed some light on. I am looking at a smaller boat and one with active departures....anyone have any experience at all with these two? Have you seen them in person while on your trip to the Galapagos...I am curious about how they look in person.

The Alta is a beautiful schooner. I would pick that in a heart-beat.

Don't know these boats, but there is not usually a choice you must make between nature and active. The active trips may add extra activities during down times. Both kinds of trips should spend about the same amount of time on the islands.

You could list the itineraries for more comments.

Both of these boats (Alta & Lammer Law) are well run operations, with highly qualified naturalist guides (which make a huge difference on your cruise experience).

The Lammer Law, now only operating occasionally, is a lovely trimaran. As this yacht doesn't offer regular cruises throughout 2009/2010 you will have ensure the date you need is one that this boat is operating.

I sailed on the Lammer Law 2 years ago. It is a really nice boat, with a great captain. However it had engine trouble which meant we couldn't see the islands on the itinerary. That was really disappointing to me because I had done a lot of research and chose the boat based on the islands it would go to. When pressed, the did provide a partial refund. I guess you never know when something like that will happen but I would ask up front what their response would be.
What we found to be really important is the naturalist guide that you have on board - the one that we had rotates among boats but he was really great. He was knowledgable and had a great disposition.
The Galapagos Islands are an amazing place so I know you will enjoy them whatever boat you choose.
