Fun in Puerto Vallarta

Anyone stayed at the Marriott in PV? How's it compare to the Westin? Also, where's THE spot for a romantic dinner with great food? Also, any must go tours?

Have not stayed at the Marriott but, have heard good things about it. Vallarta is full of romantic spots!
Le Bistro for garden/river dining.
Cuiza for a drink and good live music.
Chef Roger - courtyard dining, great food.
La Palapa on the beach dining.
Just about everywhere is romantic here,
some are more touristy than others but, just walking around and exploring you will find your favorite.
Tours - land and sea are available! Kayaking, snorkeling, mountain biking, hiking, whale watching, jeep safaris, horseback riding........ best beaches are either north or south of town: Punta de Mita, Boca de Tomatlan.
Hope this helps, feel free to write me!
Tricia
PV resident for 11 years
Dave, another restaurant that would suit your requirements would be Bogarts, next to the Krystal. Very different and special ambiance - we love it. Make reservations.

Hi Dave,
I have never stayed at the Marriott, but I have been there many times, as I live here in PVR and I work for a tour-company.
Personally I like the Marriott very much, and the service is great, but I do consider the Westin as a higher category.
Rooms are more spacious, general areas are better, and the service is very good at both hotels.
THE spot for a romantic dinner with great food would be the Cafe des Artistes, but do ask for a table in the garden, this is the most romantic.
Bogart's is also romantic , as you really get pampered here.
Must do tours, there are quite a few. My personal favorites are the Sierra Madre Safari, romantic would be the Caletas by Night cruise, where you have a torch-lit dinner on the beach, and there is still much more. How many days are you going to stay ? Send me an e-mail and I can give you more recommendations.
Also, have a look at the following web-sites for more information:
http://www.royale_tours.com
http://www.go2vallarta.com
Hola Dave, The Marriot is a beautiful hotel...located in the marina area, as is the Westin. Donīt think all of Vallarta is like the marina area...head into town, go to the southside! Re tours, please see website www.seamiamor and then you can email me directly. Gracias, P.
Hola Dave, Both the Marriot and the Westin are beautiful hotels! Located in the marina area, which is not your typical Vallarta, more like being in San Diego or somewhere similar...but beautiful nonetheless. Be sure and do something in the mountains and something in the bay.....please see our website at www.seamiamor Let me know if you need further info!

Hello..
I just returned from Puerto Vallarta this weekend. It was great. I stayed in the Marina Area. I believe that the Westin Regina and the Marriott are both in this area. I went through the Westin. It was a very nice, upscale hotel. It looked great. In my opinion the marina area is the best area to stay in. It offers better hotels, the only thing it may lack is nice beaches. Most beaches in that area are rocky.

There are many things to do in Puerto Vallarta. Tours cost anywhere from $20 to $80. My friends and I saved money by listening to a short time share presentation. Many guide books recommend against this, but for us it only took up a hour and we saved $100 US dollars each.
I highly recommend the fiesta at the Krystal Vallarta hotel. It was great.
Contact me with any questions
Sheri

Sheri:

Is the "Marina area" the same as Nuevo Vallarta? I remember seeing in one of the travel guides that the beaches were rocky in a certain area and don't want to get stuck there! Did you see what hotels might have excellent beaches?

Nuevo Vallarta is north of PV and the Marina area. NV is about 6 miles north of the airport while the Marina area and downtown PV are south of the airport. The best beaches are in Nuevo Vallarta. We stayed in NV and loved the beach there. We rented a jeep and explored PV and surrounding area. Had a great time. Just our personal preference, but we wouldn't stay anywhere else except the Nuevo Vallarta area because of the great beaches and staying in NV didn't prevent us from enjoying the rest of the PV area. However, from what I have read on this forum many others prefer to stay in the Marina area and/or in the downtown area, of PV, near all the restaurants, shopping, etc. We preferred the good beaches in NV and the 20 minute trip into PV whenever we felt like it. I think it all depends on your personal preferences.
