Fun for single traveler?
Is Belize a fun destination for a 30-something single traveler? Is it an easy place to meet other single travelers? I am afraid of being surrounded by honeymooners for 3 weeks...

go BRAZIL and do some samba.......

Belize is no Cancun (thank goodness), but it does get quite a few solo travelers. A handful of resorts, mainly in San Pedro and Placencia, get some honeymooners but generally you see a mix of travelers -- divers, birders, folks just looking for sun and sea, some cultural and eco travelers. Depending on what kind of people you want to meet, you have to pick your destination and hotel if you want to mingle. Some jungle lodges encourage guest interaction with group dining and cocktail hours, and in places like San Pedro and Caye Caulker there is bit of a bar scene.

Thank you so much! I was thinking of going to Caves branch for a few days and possibly Five Sisters. Are those good places to meet non-honeymooners?

My husband and I stayed at the 5 sisters a few weeks ago and became friendly with a solo traveler who stayed there. The atmosphere is very friendly, so it's hard not to strike up conversation with other guests. The solo traveler we met seemed to really like it, but I did think that the place was much more of a romantic getaway than not. Personally, I'd be more comfortable traveling solo to a more beach-y area like San Pedro.
Good luck deciding! |
Thank you so much for the helpful information!!
Lan-is there any hotel in particular you recommend in Ambergis? Something fun for the single girl with a pool? |
I'm neither young nor single, but just returned from our third trip to Ambergris Caye a couple days ago. If I was going there alone, I would probably stay at Banana Beach. Two pools, restaurant and bar on site, a little bit more of a resort atmosphere than the condo type places where we stay. The only downside I can see is that it's a fairly long walk into town. Certainly not a terrible walk, but one I wouldn't do alone at night.

I've been both on Ambergris-single and young. Maybe stay a little closer to town. Ramons is socially active, Sun Breeze is a good location. All are safe and friendly. Walk over the BC's bar (between Ramons and SB), nice place to start.

I've stayed at Banana Beach three or four times, most recently in August, and like it, but I don't think the way it's set up particularly encourages interaction. Most of the guests when I've been there have been couples. The bar isn't that active and I didn't see much interaction in the restaurant.
I tend to agree that something closer to town would be better. Ramon's, which is known as more of an active place, or SunBreeze are good suggestions. Hotels on Ambergris Caye overall are not set up to encourage mixing (unlike jungle lodges which generally are). In San Pedro, you'd be more likely to meet people in the many bars. --Lan Sluder |
I am planning a solo trip to Belize May 2005. One part of my stay will be on Ambergris. I am actually looking for quiet, and economy as well as safety. I plan to go to town during the day and just chill out at night ( or probably do night snorkeling).
Would Banana Beach be a good pick? |
