from Acapulco to Zihua???
 

husb & I plan to fly into Acapulco (freq. flyer mile cash in) and then
ride bus up to Zihuatanejo & back. Have about two weeks, and a
tight budget. Any suggestions or stories welcome....thanks

we plan to go in early Feb/1998. Should we anticipate
any problems finding budget lodging that time of
year if we go without reservations?

February is a prime time in the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa area. I would not go there at that time of the year, expecting reasonable accommodation without reservatations. (I did it once and won't do it again.)

An alternative that you might want to consider is Playa Troncones, about 30 km north of Zihuatanejo. It is in the 1998 Fodor's guide as one of the seven best places to get away in Mexico. There are several places listed at Yahoo! with houses or B&Bs in Troncones. (You may want to check out http://www.edenmex.com.)

We went in January last year, stayed at the Hotel Catalina/S.- nice enough, not expensive, but we did get reservations in advance... you will need them this time of year.

I have been living here for more than two years and would consider reservations this season more important than ever.
