foreign language schools
My 18 year old would like to study a language and is looking at sao paolo brazil. Any ideas, suggestions?<BR>

I know that Berlitz has an office in Rio where I think you can take a class in a full imersion atmosphere. Check out their website. They have offices in the US too for portugues where I go and then practice when I go to Rio. In my opinion Rio would be a better atmosphere rather than Sao Paulo since Sao Paulo is probably just a big poluted city with alot of crime at least Rio is on the beach.

thanks, I actually had the city wrong, it is salvador, brazil.

All these language classes are all over the country. I think she should try Cultura Inglesa, IBEU, Britania or look for infos at american or british consulatse.

My husband has family in a town in Mexico called Cuernavaca. It is about 1 hour south of Mexico City and is absolutely beautiful. They have at least 2 foreign language schools there and everytime we go we see many american young people. The town is pretty safe and easy to fall in love with. Check out a website on Cuernavaca and they have more info on the schools

Does he want to study Portugese or Spanish? That will help make recomendations.

Debbie, he was looking at Salvador (Bahia) in Brazil. They speak Portugues there not Spanish. I can't imagine him wanting to learn Spanish in Brazil, Im sure he would have been looking at a Spanish speaking country then. Some posters here have suggested Spanish speaking countries which is close to Portugues but so is Italian in a way.

Don- I know which country they speak which language in. When you said he wants to learn "a language" I thought you meant he was in the process of deciding where he wanted to go, which language, etc. I did not mean to infer that Spanish would be close enough to Portugese- Although my Spanish is good I don't do Portugese or Italian.
