I guess I am glad I was not being naughty

Maybe we have to identify ourselves to recieve our checks?

Hi IVK--and thank you! She's a smart kid--what can I say? Not to mention gorgeous. . . .. . .

My husband would kill me if he knew I was on here ranting like an idiot grandmother!

I've enjoyed "reading" all of you today. What an interesting little group we are! I keep saying, we've just gotta meet up--wouldn't we have a wonderful time?

And Greenfieldhunter--that IS a fantastic thing for you to have said about BdC and I agree: so absolutely true!

Tully, por favor. . . .
please resend your e-mail. I opened it at home, but didn't have time to reply before leaving for my Texas home--I'd like to read it again (and don't have your address with me here). If you re-send I can open it here on my computer at school (after hours of course!).

OK, gang, you are clearly the pros on CR. Hubby and I went Jan. 04 for 10th anniversary and loved it. NOw able to go back this January, but only for 5 days (arrive late on Jan. 27th and leave 2/1). As of now, have frequent flier tix into San Jose. Should we get tix to Liberia instead? Last time we went to Arenal (Manuel del Fuego hotel- would never return) and loved the Hidalgo's family hot springs. Then went to Monteverde Lodge, then Manuel Antonia (Makanda- phenomenal) then Xandari- also great.

This time, deciding whether to stay put in one place (Peace Lodge has std. room only) or divide into two places. Didn't do the Guanecaste region last time or Corcovado Tent lodge, which sounds either interesting or nightmarish. Would love your input. Also, we did whole thing thru CR expeditions last time- went smoothly whole trip- Can we plan entirely ourselves and still get a driver?

Thanks in advance! And congrats on being famous for a moment! Jill

I'm thinking that with 5 days you might enjoy the Caribbean side down around Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. Almonds and Corals Tent Camp is lots of fun and there are some other great places to stay over there as well. It rains a little more, but that hasn't been a problem for us the 3 times we have been over there. It certainly would give you a different view of CR and is perfect for the time you have.

You can certainly do all the booking yourselves and hire a driver as well. Someone else will need to advise you on that--we prefer driving.

There are other areas you might enjoy also. Hotel Savegre down south of San Jose is in a lovely area of cloud forest and you could have a very nice time there for 2-3 nights. I'd also recommend in combination with 2-3 nights at Savegre a couple of nights at La Finca Que Ama (you've surely read about that one on here!)

A lot depend on what you are wanting to do with your time and how much activity you would prefer.

Just a couple of ideas for you to ponder! Guanacaste is one of my favorite locations, but tends to be brown and dry in the summer months and is a long drive from San Jose (you would need to fly into Liberia). Still, it would be a great place to visit. You've been there, so you know it is very hard to make a wrong decision! The times we have visited for only 5 days (WAY too short!) we have tried to visit just one area that we perhaps wouldn't ordinarily visit.

Good luck!

Well, just came from local Barnes and Noble and found some Fodorite words of wisdom!! I know there are lots more quotes that i didn't have time to find, but here are a few with accompanying pages, to save any future readers some research time:
P. 65 from TVL about the Marriott
p. 231 from Costaricafinca about small hotels in CR
p. 355 from "not naughty" Greenfieldhunter about the Osa(as mentioned in above posts)
p. 262 from Ally about surfing
p.372 from Molly2 aobut Drake Bay
p.337 from Glover about Pacific's Edge
p.71 two different opinons about Xandari, from Ltilson and Rchandler1118

Had to put off my CR trip, darn it. Gosh, what a tease reading through that book!!!!!!

Thanks. We'll have to decide on a region, but currently booked into SJO, and hubby won't take more time off due to summer plans. What are your thoughts on Xandari (we stayed there before) or Peace Lodge? Pics look wonderful. They only have std rooms avl but still looks nice. THinking we could do day trips from one spot.
