I know topping my own post is a social gaffe, but there are several posters headed to Panama soon and these photos may alert them to some problems in the area.

Since my gaffe is already on the record, I will compound it.

Mary, I have had NO time to respond, but thanks. The photos are amazing. I had no idea this had taken place!

I am told there is tremendous damage and frankly the reason I keep bumping this up is so many people are planning to go to Panama in the next two months. Better check ahead if you are going to Boquete, Volcan or that area.

Shillmac, the pictures are astounding, aren't they?

bellaboo Dec 2nd, 2008 03:13 PM

It's terrible!!! What damage!

shillmac Dec 2nd, 2008 06:18 PM

Yes, very hard to believe. Makes me want to get in touch with Barry and Jane at Coffee Estate Inn. We really love this area, but wouldn't want to go with it in such terrible condition! Keep bumping! :)

We were able to get cheap airfare this Xmas to Panama.....I'm sad as I really love it there.

I hope for the sake of everyone in Boquete it's stopped raining.

faithie, you really do like Panama, don't you? We enjoyed it, too, and want to explore more, but are still more attached to CR.

What are your plans for Christmas? And what was the place you guys went to a year or so ago that was more remote? Island off the coast of Columbia or something? I thought that vacation sounded terrific.

I've heard that the most damage was localized and repairs are already underway. I had sent a note to the owners of Tinamou Cottage (where we're staying in February), and that's what they said. Hopefully that's the case.

Hey Shillmac, I know where Faithie went last year, since we were there last January.

Isla Providencia, owned by Colombia, but really closer to Nicaragua.

Amazing little island. Beautiful and very undeveloped.

Hi you guys. I live in Boquete and it is very upsetting to hear the news about the Boquete Flood. The damage was along the river only; 2 hotels were affected; Hotel Ladera might not open again, but ALL other hotels are open, restaurants are open, tour companies are doing tours. The sun is out and it is as beautiful as ever. The Quetzal Trail is closed, because of mud slides, (they hope to open by Christmas) but other wildlife trails are open in the park. So many people have cancelled or are cancelling their reservations to Boquete because of misinformation. If you want to see some current pictures--flood and after flood, you can go to the many blogs coming from Boquete itself. www.boqueteguide.com. ; http://boquetesafaritours.typepad.co...a-information/

shillmac Dec 6th, 2008 08:16 PM

Yeah, that's it. That's Jean--I want to go there! :)

bellaboo Dec 7th, 2008 02:33 AM

Hi Jill,

Yes....Jean's correct. We went to Old Providence...

Incredible little island, very, very beautiful, laid back, off the beaten track, friendly, great snorkeling, great diving, great simple food, cool history(why I say Old Providence).

We love it!
