I think that's a great fare.

cmcfong May 22nd, 2006 05:49 PM

I think it is very good as well. The quotes I got for Delta from GSO to Buenos Aires ranged from 800-1200 and that was six months out.

This is an excellent fare. With fuel prices increasing and tourism growing in Argentina, fares have gone up, up and away over the past two or three years. I paid well over 1k for my last fare from DFW to EZE...

I suppose you know you will be going to Buenos Aires during the hottest and most humid part of their summer in January?

cmcfong May 23rd, 2006 03:58 AM

Doc, not to hijack the thread, but I gather you are doing a lot of the touristy things in Buenos Aires this week. Will you be posting any kind of report ?

avrooster May 23rd, 2006 04:14 AM

Yeah, Doc, how about a full report?

Calex May 23rd, 2006 04:59 AM

Went with my gut and purchased. Flying United with 1 stop purchased on flycheapabroad. The weather is going to be hot/humid and will be a shock to the system flying from Toronto then to Iguazu Falls for 2 days and then on to my trip of a lifetime - Antarctica. The flight will be the cheapest part of the entire trip.
Glad what I thought was a great price has been validated.

Carol, that does sound like a fabulous trip. Do post a report!

drdawggy May 25th, 2006 01:30 AM

cmfong,

I have been doing a variety of touristy things over the past week or so.....I hadn't really thought about doing a trip report, but I suppose I could if it would be helpful.

cmcfong May 25th, 2006 03:38 AM

Doc, just read the report you posted on TA and it is great. Thank you. I am sure the rest of the Fodors posters who are planning a trip to Argentina will appreciate your insights as well.

Have a great adventure. I hope you post a recap when you return; I plan to do so when we return.

In Argentina the IVA es mandatory to everybody. Not in Uruguay where there is also a high IVA but in Hotels is not applicable to foreign tourists.
Those countries belive in TAXING their peoples that is why life is so hard for locals and the economies suffer a lot.

drdawggy May 27th, 2006 12:44 PM

Graziella, While I almost always agree with your take on things....the issue of why life is hard is a bit more complex than the level of IVA tax in South American countries....just my opinion, of course....

We just got business class on Delta's partners Avianca MEX-EZE/AeroMexico SCL-MEX for Sky Miles and way less tax than from the US.

We got tix from Miama to Buenos Aires six months out for $490 on TAM Brazilian Airlines (via BookingBuddy.com). That was four months ago...tix for the same flights are now running around $200 more each.
