Flamingo to Montezuma - Drive?

Looks like we will hire a driver from San Jose to Flamingo in Feb 2006, but then we need to get from Playa Flamingo to Montezuma. The driver said it is a long bumpy ride, and suggested we fly, but we cannot find any air service between the two. Anyone traveled between the two that can make a recommendation? Thanks, Ken.

I'd definitely go back across the Friendship Bridge, down to Puntarenas, and take the ferry across the Golfo de Nicoya, then on to Montezuma. It may take you close to 6 hours. You can drive right down the east side of the peninsula, but I know that it is extremely rough and will not save you one bit of time. There is a long stretch of unpaved road full of very deep ruts. You can go the other way and relax while the ferry does the driving for an hour and a half! You'll need to check the ferry schedule and then confirm it again before you leave Flamingo. Arrive about 30 minutes to an hour ahead of the departure time. Enjoy!

Oops, sorry! The ferry schedule is at www.nicoyapeninsula.com

You'll be taking the ferry to Paquera, not Naranjo. . . .

Thanks Shillmac, looks like a good plan.

Domestic Air - no - there is no direct flight between these two points. You would have to fly to SJO and then to Tambor. Then you would have an approx 30 min ride to Montezuma.

Hello, I did this trip two years ago from Tamarindo. You can go down to Santa Cruz, Nicoya to Naranjo. From Naranjo to Paquera was a unpaved road, but in good shape. I think the whole trip took less than 5 hours.

costaklaus, I did the route (down south of Santa Cruz to Naranjo and Paquera) a couple of years ago as well--it wasn't half bad. This past July it was HORRIBLE! We were quite surprised. I wouldn't do it again on a bet--it was bone jarring and extremely slow. I think it would be worse now after the heavy rains.
