Flamingo Beach Resort Reviews??
Hi All,
I am booked at the Flamingo beach resort Jan 20-27, and was wondering if anyone has stayed there are can advise me on the quality of the place, and the vlaue for the $$$. We are in a poolside room with a king bed for $120 / night + tax. Also, any not to be missed sights in the area? After this stop, we are heading over to the Arenal Area. thanks! |
We've stayed there many times and have always considered it a very good value. Our stays have always been during the green season and we've always taken advantage of advertised low rates such as $69 per night, so yeah, that would be a very good deal! :)
Here is what you will find for your $$: Typical moderate hotel rooms--not huge, but you know, typical Holiday Inn. The bathtubs are a nice bonus, if you like baths. So many hotels in Costa Rica have only showers. We like the poolside rooms. Friendly staff and helpful. Excellent pool bar staff. Huge lovely pool. Nice little hair salon on site operated by Chris and Caroline, a very sweet French couple. He does the hair part; she does massages. $50 per hour, excellent massage. We've had mani's/pedi's there as well. Haircuts, color, you name it. . .but ALWAYS we schedule with Caroline for a massage. She's much better than the gals you might be tempted to hire on the beach, of course! Not so great food. We never eat there, unless breakfast is included. The breakfasts aren't so bad, but just not great. We've had burgers and pizza at the pool bar, which is fine, but I was not impressed with the restaurant upstairs. Much better places in the area to eat. Fabulous location. Just steps away from probably the prettiest beach in Costa Rica offering fabulous sunsets. You'll be gathering about 5:30 with everyone else to ooh and ahhh! :) Don't leave too soon; sometimes the colors are their most vibrant a few minutes after the sun has disappeared. Take a drive to Playa Potrero, check out Playa Penca while you're in that area (about 10 min. away). Drive to Playa Brasilito and have a meal at Camaron Dorado--excellent food, wonderful beachside service. Definitely a restaurant you shouldn't miss. Have lunch at Marie's across the street and a few steps toward town from the Flamingo Beach Resort entrance. The rotisserie chicken is excellent as are most things on the menu. I don't know what you would consider a good value, but we think FBR is one of the best values we've found in the country. Nothing fancy, but location, location, location! :) |
Sounds like I need to get a car reserved. Thanks for your feedback

Definitely you'll want a car if you plan on "seeing the area". Don't forget to make a visit over to Tamarindo while you are in the area.

We stayed at Flamingo several years ago and all the comments on the hotel are right on. This was one of our favorite vacations ever because there is so much to see and do in this area. There was a tour company right at the hotel which was great. We went on a river cruise which was fantastic. I have never again seen so many beautiful birds in such a small area. There were also monkeys, etc. We went to Rincon de la Vieja (?) and had a great time with the canopy tour, mud baths, and hot springs. We also saw leatherback turtles nesting via a tour near Tamarindo. Have dinner at the Sugar Beach Hotel across the bay from the Flamingo. It is very scenic with good food. You will definitely need a car but it is very easy to drive around the area. I wish we were going back!
