Fishing in Zihuatanejo

Any recommendations? We are total amateurs but would love to go out for half a day. We are staying at Villa del Sol.

I just posted for restaurant suggestions.
We are staying at La casa que Canta in February.....we are also amateurs....a friend of our said that either Villa del sol or our hotel could set up a deep sea charter 1/2 day for 2 to 8 people....did you check with the hotel????

Have you ever been to this area before?

I haven't checked with the hotel - I assumed they could set it up but thought I'd see if anyone here had recommendations for a particular boat or captain. When will you be in Mexico? We are going mid-February.

We will be there the 16th thru the 21st...
Villa Del Sol was booked for those days....that was our first choice....When will you be visiting?

I would also like a reliable, experienced captain/charter.......have you been deep sea fishing before?

We'll be there the 15th-19th. We have been fishing a (very) few times before, including once in Huatulco two years ago. We caught a tuna and the chef at our hotel made us wonderful ceviche for lunch (and tuna for dinner, and then asked us every day thereafter if we wanted more of our tuna!). We would love to repeat that experience.

I have only been once in Hawaii, otherwise, I usually choose sailing trips...
I hope somebody has some suggestions!!!
From my research....fishing might be a must do in this area!!!! Your last experience sounds wonderful!!! We would love that type of trip!!

We stayed at villa del Sol A few years ago. We insisted on a room with plunge pool and we got it..It was Great!!! Everyday they would make our room up with different flowers on our bed. Went into town one day which was cool. We also ate out a few nights but felt that service and food was best at our hotel.

Fishing: I dreamed of catching the big one. VDS hired a boat for me (private with capt and mate) $ 250 Well I landed a Moster marlin, all I wanted to do was pet it and let it go...NO I was bullied by crew and they kept the fish this broke my heart..I will never do this again.. it ain't no trout!!! To make thinks worse, when we returned to pier it was lined with marlin..Someday these people will have no more fish to catch and will also loose $ in tourism..

All and all a great trip to Villa del Sol..Remember it's not the carribean..
One more important thing..I am a big tipper and I through tips around to everyone...At check out I was forced to put over $100 into a box for the staff..watch out

Have been fishing out of Z town 3 times and have found that the best deals can be found by going down to the dock around 1:00 and talking to the charter Captains.Figure around 150.00 U.S.to 180.00 for a panga and about 350.00 to 400.00 for a 38/42 footer, supply and demand,Good luck Sail fish should be hot about now! Karl's advice is excellent-booking through a hotel is a sure way to hire a boat that's not making any money from the Charter and needs to kill fish to break even.

The Zihuatanejo.net message board offers lots of information about fishing. There are also links to websites of specific charters offered in the area. We'll be there in March and are trying to decide who to call. Based on ohers' reports so far it seems that the charters listed on the website are all reputable.
