First trip to Cozumel this week. Any advice?
Taking my first trip to Cozumel this week and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on "can't miss" things to do, eat, see, etc. or any "stay away from" advice. A group of us has rented a house on the beach just north of town for a week. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't miss the Sunday night party (8 pm) at the Zocolo (central square) in downtown.<BR>Live music and dancing. Very family oriented.<BR>Don't miss diving or snorkeling. Some of the best of both in the entire world.<BR>If you are partiers and open-minded and love people-watching, don't miss an afternoon or evening at Carlos and Charlies watching the wild hilarity (all good clean fun but a little crazy sometimes).<BR>Don't miss shopping at Los Cinco Soles. Thousands and thousands of square feet of the best shopping in town in cool A/C.<BR>Don't miss breakfast at the Museum Cafe - outside on the balcony with a great view of the water.<BR>Don't miss lunch at the Diamond Cafe - tucked into a side street with great cookies, ice cream, deli sandwiches and and great Mexican specialties.<BR>Don't miss dinner at Prima - rooftop Italian, La Cocay - gourmet Mayan, and La Verandah - romantic outdoor dining in a candlelit courtyard.<BR>If you are an animal lover, don't miss taking a tour of the Humane Society shelter (it's very nice) and giving them a donation. They have really neat T-shirts that you get for making a donation, and they are most appreciative.<BR>Stay away from the people in the little booths sprinkled around downtown saying they can get you cheap rental cars or trying to sell you tours. <BR>They just want to start a conversation and get you to go for a timeshare presentation.<BR>Have a great time!<BR>

My advice is different. I'd stay as far away as possible from the Zocolo and all the rest of those over-priced "Gringo" tourist places. If that's what you want you'd be better off going to Miami Beach or on a cruise. Seriously, if you venture a few blocks from the center of town you will experience a more authenic Mexico. At least give it a try when you're there.

Kenstee,<BR>It's apparent you have never been to the Sunday night party in San Miguel.<BR>First of all, tourists are in the minority. It's mostly local families bringing their children and sitting around visiting and listening to the music and letting the kids dance and play.<BR>Secondly, it's free. (Where did you come up with over-priced?)<BR>Thirdly, where in Cozumel several blocks away from downtown do you suggest people go?<BR>Should they wander around in the neighborhoods since Cozumel really only has one town?<BR>They are already going to experience much more than most visitors to Cozumel by renting a house and probably also a car, so I am sure they will be exploring.<BR>Why don't you give some specific examples of things for them to do and see?
