First trip to Argentina
 

My husband and I are planning our first trip to Argentina for November/07. We have two weeks to spend in this country. We're sure that we want to go to Buenos Aires and Bariloche. What we can't decide and need your advice is to choose among the following:
1. Buenos Aires / Iguazu / Bariloche
2. Buenos Aires / Bariloche / Calafate / Ushuaia
3. Buenos Aires / Bariloche / Lake Crossing / Chile

We would be very grateful with your recommendations. By the way, we are in our mid thirties.

If this will be only your "first trip" and you believe there will be more, I would suggest going to Iguazú during our winter, some other time. That would eliminate (1).

If your limit is two weeks, I would suggest only Buenos Aires, the Bariloche AREA and Calafate.

Loved Buenos Aires - wished we stayed for a month; three nights at the very wonderful Iguazu Grand was one too many; Santiago, CL (Hot Orly and Providencia are super.

Should you choose to visit Bariloche, please consider the Hotel Aldebaran. I loved, loved, loved it. Very romantic and so quiet. We enjoyed lake views and long evening walks. Beautiful Argentina!

Considering the time you have... I would definitely choose option two. You guys are gonna love it!

In Buenos Aires: you can't miss Colon Theater, Florida Boulevard, San Telmo Quarter (go on Sunday before 4 pm, because there is an antique market and you can see the best tango show ever, better than paid shows, really...you'll remember my advice!)... and just walk along the streets, you're gonna love those "callecitas de Buenos Aires".

In Bariloche, Calafate and Ushuaia: you'll have lots of National Parks to visit and you'll be able to do some trails (if you like trekking)!

I would recommend you guys to plan your trip very well because there's a lot of things to do in Buenos Aires and Patagonia! Enjoy planning your trip!.

I would include Salta to make it nicer, four or five days would be great. Do not miss Purmamarca and the 7 colour mountain and the Salt Flats. And Cafayate to taste wines or just to see the wonderful rock formations.

Thanks for all your suggestions. My husband and I finally chose trip #2 (BA, Bariloche, Calafate and Ushuaia). It will be very hard because every two days we'll have to take a plane to a different city.

Im glad you guys have choose option 2. If you need some other advice, dont hesitate to ask.

Hi- just wanted to clarify one very small point.
I believe the Colon is closed for renovation through 2007.

You've got to see Iguazu! We drove the 20+ hour route (one way) and had so much fun! The falls are awesome!. Do the boat trip to the base and take a shower the Iguazu way! Also, make sure you see Gargantua del Diablo (Devil's Throat) where all the water converges. Look for the 360 degree rainbow! :-)

What do you mean with Colon is closed?

Teatro Colon is the beautiful opera house in BA. It is closed for rennovations and scheduled to be open in May 2008.
