first timer to buenos aires
hi everyone! i know you probably get sick of such a general question as the weather in august but im confused.i know from reading the forum and checking the weather sources on the internet that it is winter down there. but yet the temperature is suppose to be around 60 degrees and some people say that it is like houston in winter-which is not that bad. but other people say it is so damp and cold that they are freezing.so im confused. to me winter in houston is much different then winter in chicago let's say. so my basic question is do i need to bring a winter coat like you would wear in chicago in winter or would a lite weight jacket, sweather or raincoat surfice? thanks so much .also does anyone know of any good stores selling yarn or fabric for quilting in BA?

Hi, nomadwoman!
Our winter is mild, certainly not like in Chicago. Besides, you do not say exactly when you are coming. If you are used to cold weather, our winter will feel like spring to you. We just had a few warm days and now it is cooler, but still mild. Check the 10 day forecasts just before leaving, but I do not think you will need a heavy winter coat. I'll leave the "fabric for quilting" thing to someone else. |
sorry i forgot to put when i'm coming to BA. i will be there in mid august.i know that the temperature should be in the 50-60's at this time but people were saying that because of the wind and humidity that it seems to be much colder then that. which is why i was asking about whether a sweather, light coat or winter type jacket would be best.i am coming from the east coast of the usa which is very cold in the winter but it has been almost 100 degrees every day so i will feel the difference more. thanks for your advice .every answer will be appreciated!

Hi, nomadwoman!
I still cannot help you with the quilting thing, but I confirm that I do not think you will need a heavy winter coat during mid-August here. However, you SHOULD be able to layer up and down, because the lows (at night) could well be well below the highs, at noon on a sunny day. Again, check the 10-day forecasts before leaving. If you are desperate and no one answers your quilting question, I'll see what I can do, but I am not even sure of what you are talking about. Have a good trip and enjoy our town. |

Allthough with no "expertize" on this matters ,you will probably find what you are looking for in Once neighbourhood in BA. More known as EL ONCE ,where streets are covered with shops specializing on different articles. What a Porteño would do is " walk" the Once neighbourhood searching the best quality and prices , usually well below other fancy shopping areas. Good luck! |
Hi Nomadwoman !!
Take sweater during the day and winter coat for nights, plus don't forget to drink "MATE". |
Just follow avrooster's advice. Raincoats, umbrellas , yes. Heavy winter coat no. layer up yes. Sweaters, winter slacks, blue jeans, sock, stockings, confortable shoes. Yes.
