first time to Belize
 

my first trip, 7-8 days, fishing, snorkeling, relaxation, ruins, prefer small nice accomodations but price is not the issue. HELP

Not much time, but lots of folks have enjoyed splitting a short trip between the San Ignacio area (hiking, ruins - including Tikal in Guatemala - canoing, caving...) and a caye (Ambergris and Caulker are easily accessible and the most popular). We enjoyed www.thetrekstop.com and wwwbelizecamp.com (Macal River Jungle Camp) in the San Ignacio area. Check out www.belizeforum.com . Have a great trip whatever you decide!

Cayo is great area to visit on the mainland for sites, caves, river trips, waterfalls, horses, mtn biking, zip lines and things. Some of the best jungle lodges in the country-Chaa Creek, duPlooys, Blancaneaux Lodge and Hidden Valley Inn. Many other good lodges for less $, same trips. Serious angler? El Pesacador on Ambergris, among many other choices. Really dedicated anger? Than stay at one of the lodges on the remote outer atolls decidated to anglers and divers. And thats just a few options to think about.

we rented a condo (2br/2bath) in Ambergris Caye for $1050 for the week. There are a lot of such condo's - the best website I found was http://www.ambergriscaye.com/ and look under lodging

If you go to Ambergris Caye, don't miss Dennis Wolfe at one of the local bars on the beach and ask him to sing "Gringo in Belize" or "Save the Manatee For Me."

San Pedro on AC is amazing - nothing but golf carts to get around and a ferry across a stream that is pulled across by strong young men.

If you can hop around, try Corozel on the Mexico border or head a little south to the New River and take a tour to the ruins of Lamanai.
