First time Cancuners need day trip advice
 

Greetings! My wife and I are first timers to Cancun and are staying at the Royal Islander compliments of our family's time share priveleges. First question? Anyone experience staying/visiting there? Second, we want to take a day trip somewhere and my wife is pregnant (but not immobile)..any suggestions? People have recommended going to Isla Mujeres, renting the golf cart thing which sounds good. Can anyone confirm that to be a good idea or have a few additional suggestions. Thanks for your help!

Jesse<BR><BR>Taking into consideration the pregnancy of your wife, I would suggest the Isla Mujeres trip, maybe a short visit to Tulum (mayan ruins about 1 hour away, here you have to walk a bit but is not such a big site) and maybe (depending if you want to swim a bit, maybe even with dolphins) to Xcaret.<BR><BR>Cheers,<BR><BR>McH

I think Isla Mujeres and Tulum sound like great suggestions. A lot depends too on how many months along she is when you go. My wife went hiking in the mountains when she was about 4-5 months pregnant (during cool weather though). The heat might be a reason to stay away from the bigger destinations such as Chichen Itza, which would require a lot of walking in 90+ temps. We rented a scooter on Isla Mujeres and circled the island. Of course, you will want the golf cart instead. You can find some information on what to see in my travelogue at www.oneeyed.homestead.com. Hello,<BR><BR>You might consider going down the road to Playa del Carmen - beautiful beaches, funky shops, nice restaurants.<BR>Akumal, a little further down, could be combined with the Tulum ruins. It's a really neat little town with a beautiful beach, great snorkeling, and some good restaurants also.

Xel-Ha, pronounced shel-ha, is a beautiful naturla aquarium and is usually included with a trip to Tulum to view the ancient Mayan ruins. Most fun I had. Isla Mujeres is a very poor, poverty stricken island. They do have this light house of the island that has a beautiful staute about 8 feet under you can snorkel and see. You could also do one of the late night lobster cruises.

I have stayed several times at the Islander and I always enjoy it. The people is very nice. You can take a shuttle to the new Hotel of the Royal chain (the royal sands) and spend the day there. The pool is great but not too much shade. The spa is also really good. Before you go back to the Islander, I suggest Dinner at La Destileria, just across the street from the Sands. I'm going to assume you're going on a saturday (as most of time shares in Cancun are from saturday to saturday) so don't miss the Sunday brunch in Maria Bonita. Since your wife is pregnant I agree with the previous messages, Isla Mujeres and Tulum are good options. In my case I will go to Tulum because I like Mayan ruins, they are the only ones in the world that are next to the sea. There's not much to do in Isla Mujeres except go around the island and some shopping, you go in a Ferry with music and some cocktails.
