Faxing/scanning copy of credit card

Hello,

I'm confirming a reservation and have been asked to fax or scan both sides of my credit card. It's a well known resort- Hamanasi in Belize- but I think it's an unusual request to send a copy. Having said that, I've given my credit card number over the phone/sent through secure websites to hold reservations plenty of times. I try to not type such info in emails though, and who knows who is on the other end of a receiving fax.

They do have a US booking telephone number and I left a message to ask about giving my credit card information by phone. Or am I being over-cautious?

Thanks, Emily

I've had to fax credit card info to Costa Rica, including the security number on the back. They wanted an actual copy of the credit card. As well as a copy of my signature.

I can't recall if I've had ot do this in Belize.

It certainly does send up a red flag, but I suspect it's pretty common in Central America.

You might try contacting Katie Valk (I think she posts on here) or Barb of Barbsbelize.com Both are travel agents who specialize in Belize. Katie lives in Belize, Barb is in the States. Perhaps you can route information through them.

I had to do this book a flight with a travel agency in Chile. It struck me as odd but it worked out fine.

I did this for two different trips to Brazil, it was fine. I was told it's fairly standard.

Standard practice in many places, you won't have a problem.
