Favorite City in Latin America?

Greetings!

I may be faced with an interesting situation in Jan. It is about 80% certain that I may be making a career/company change in January.

Here is the situation: I am already going to Thailand for almost the entire month of Feb. It doesn't make sense that I would work for 2-3 weeks with the new company then go to Thailand. If this new position does come to fruition I would rather just take January off as well.

This is a rare opportunity to travel for a couple of months!

That being said, I am considering heading down south to some warmth because it has been bloody cold here in Portland, OR the last few weeks! It is also closer than heading to Europe or Asia.

I am an adventuresome 40 yr old female and I would probably be traveling for a couple of weeks solo. I enjoy small towns as well as big cities. I have been to Mexico over a dozen times and I have been to Costa Rica.

I generally have a country in mind when I travel somewhere but I have been immersed in planning my Thailand trip so I hadn't really given this a thought until today!

I would love to hear you suggestions about favorite cities and towns that you have visited in Latin America. Your suggestions along with air fare cost will help me decide where to visit!

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Buenos Aires, Argentina, of course!!!!

Colonial cities of Mexico like Guadalajara and Morelia are my favorite. However, I dream of traveling to Argentina and Chile. If you're looking for something different from Mexico (seeing as how you've been there so much) then these South American countries may be just the ticket.

Well, Argentina and Chile have nothing in common with Mexico! Except for the fact that they speak the same languages...
My suggestion would be to go to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro to experience a big city and then Buzios to experience the small town. Both have excellent options for you, although Rio is better if you're going alone. But I think any big city is better if you're going alone. Both are fun and beautiful and the people are great so you should have no problem having fun there!

I'll also toss in a vote for Buenos Aires. Your flight to get there may be expensive, but the exchange rate is very favorable once you are there, so it's a great place for the budget traveler. Be sure to work in a trip to Iguazu falls while you're there.

Buenos Aires for sure! It is a wonderful city. And this from a person who never thought she wanted to go there but now that I've been I can't wait to go back. The people are so wonderful and the shopping.....wow.

Buenos Aires is one of the most vibrant big cities found on the planet and the Argentine countryside offers some very distinctive scenery....Iguazu Falls is amazing and the lakes district of Patagonia is not unlike the Austrian Alps or the Cascades of Washington and British Columbia.....The only thing you wont find in Argentina are beaches such as those found in Mexico or Brazil...
