Fave, hidden gem restaurants

I have just found out tonight I will have a free trip to the Grand Fiesta Americana in September. And while I have been many times, almost always with my kids, so this will be hubby only. Is there any restaurants in town you guys can recommend. Not interested in the regulars as I've done them, maybe out of the way spots I may have not thought of. Certainly not Ocean Grill (treat their customers terribly), but any other ones. I thought of Casa Isabel and have not been there yet, but wondered if it's worth all the hype? Red Cabbage was also on my list of maybe's, but other than that, I'm open. Thanks for any help:) PS: we are already going to Tony's in Mismaloya for sure as it's a must on any trip. Cant find better seafood in PV than there:)

It might be helpful if you said what city you will be visiting.

Oops, Puerto Vallarta:). Sorry.

<<Not interested in the regulars as I've done them>>

maried11, What are the "regulars"? I don't know what to suggest since I don't know where you've been already. I have no idea what the "regulars" in Vallarta would be considered??

Go to Casa Isabel for the view and drinks but eat somewhere else. Vista Grill is up that same hill. I'm also not sure what you mean by "all the hype" because the restaurant "Madison South" doesn't generally get very good comments (food-wise).

I love The Red Cabbage.

Lola at The Red Cabbage is a delight with the best Mexican food in PV In My Opinion!

I'm hoping you'll stop back and give us a list (or general idea) of places you liked before, so I have a guideline what you are looking for.

Do you care what part of town? What kind of food? What price range?

maried11 Aug 3rd, 2016 03:17 PM

We've done the regulars like at joe jacks, margarita grill, CDO, the normal ones. I haven't tried red cabbage, Layla's, the Liz Taylor one, la Ronda so those are all options. Not interested in Archie's wok or mariachis polo?

Cucco's
Anejo Limon
Vitea
Salud
Trio

< Not interested in Archie's wok or mariachis polo? >

Is that a question or a statement?

maried11 Aug 3rd, 2016 04:06 PM

Just saying that I don't need those suggestions, I like Archie's Wok, but been there lots and this is a trip to try new things and Mariscos Polo is too over priced. I really like Cucco's for breakfast on one of their daily specials and their location, so maybe dinner would be great too. Just trying to fit in 3 dinners and lunches for a trip where I don't have kids that I wouldn't normally get to. I think Red Cabbage is a definite.

The Red Cabbage has always been wonderful for me, but I haven't been there in quite a few years to say anything personally.

Vitea is my most favorite new-to-me-place.

Also Daiquiri Dick's. I'd never been there until someone took me out to dinner a year ago and now it's one of my favorites (but I assume that counts in the "regulars" that you have already been to and not "hidden" by any means?)

For coffee and breakfast, I like Cafesto on Olas Altas.

I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant at the far end of the upper island. It was great but of course it has been 8 years! LOL
PS
Suze with Interjet service BJX (Leon/GTO) to Puerto Vallarta I intend to bring my 10 year Grandson over for a week or two next March.

thank you all, does anyone have an opinion on la ronda? I have conflicting reviews and info on them.

suze Aug 5th, 2016 11:00 AM

Nice! (For Stewbear about visiting PV w/ Grandson).

Sorry never been to la Ronda, maried11, to say.
