Fashion tips for Buenos Aires.
 

I'm traveling to BsAs in the beginning of January and I'm starting to think about what I should be packing clothes wise. I know it'll be hot out, so I'm prepared for that.

More specifically, I'm assuming jeans, a t and my sneakers will be just fine, but I like to dress up as well, especially if going out. Is it bad form to wear a nice suit to dinner, or to a club, or to dancing? I'm of the ilk to dress more up than down. Any hints would be helpful. Anything to avoid besides flashy jewelry? (Which I don't wear anyway, ahhaaha)

It's not bad form to wear a suit at all, but there's no problem if you dress a little more "sport" as we say here, like a nice shirt and shoes and a good pair of jeans or light trousers. It cools down at night in Buenos Aires, but there're evenings in which you wish you left your jacket at home...

Argentine are very fashion concience. January is terribly hot in Buenos Aires, although it can be pleasant because the city in more quiet, and has many outdoor cafes, rest etc. many green spaces too.

There are hotels with pools it might be a good idea.

Interested to read this since I have the same questions. siberia_ba, what did you mean about carrying USD cash? I won't have a lot of time to shop, but would LOVE to know some effecient places to buy clothes that a suitable for a professional woman in her later 40's to wear in BA in the summer and here in SF the rest of the time!

I was just repeating what I read in these forums. I am a guy, so I wouldn't be able to steer you in a specific direction with regards to clothing, but I bought killer shoes in February, the kind that would cost up to 300 bucks here in the Bay Area, for US$ 50/60 a pair... There are a lot of new young designers in the Palermo area, specializing on women's clothes. Check out other threads, and good luck on your trip.

Uhoh, he said the magic word to me, shoes. Any suggestions for great shops to find mens shoes?

Jasnbex, Palermo Viejo, Soho and Hollywood..shops and shops with shoes, boots and handbags.
Also at the San Telmo Mkt, good leather stores.

For men's shoes: Lopez Taibo, with several stores, including Corrientes Ave (downtown) and Recoleta.

As others have noted, Palermo Soho for designer clothing.

Christian LaCroix has an outlet of sorts in Palermo on Segui just a block or so off Libertador
