Fares to Puerto Vallarta from S.F. Bay Area.
We are going to P.V., staying at Majahuitas next February and as of yesterday the fares range from $438 on America West with a stop in L.A. to $530 non-stop Alaska. I plan to keep checking fares, but I'm not sure what a reasonable fare would be these days. Is it too early to buy?
Thanks!

We met some folks from your area at the Hotelito south of PV in February of this year. They flew to DFW and then to PVR on AA. We flew Delta from SLC to LAX and on to PVR.
You might check these alternatives.

Sorry, that was poorly written. I meant to suggest that you look at fares from AA and Delta, too.
BTW, I don't think it's too early. We've purchased tickets to fly to Bangkok this December. I'm betting that the fares increase with the increase in fuel prices. There is speculation, as you know, that $65 to $70/Barrel of crude could be a reality by the end of the year.

I flew from the Monterey area in Feb.and paid $440.(united) It was no cheaper if i flew out of S.F.O or San Jose. Last year in April out of Monterey i paid $500.00 on America West.It is so hard to guess when is the right time to book as yes- the fares can come down, but these prices you listed are not unreasonable either.
I am shopping for Sept. prices but am holding out to see if they will drop.
You amy want to check out flying out of Oakland to see if prices are any different.

Absolutely I would give more for a nonstop on Alaska Air. And I wouldn't hold my breath for fall sales, since that is getting closer to high tourist season for PV (i.e., Dec - April), especially if you already have hotel reservations and your dates are set.
I like using Alaska for Puerto Vallarta because they have more flights in/out than any other airline. I've gone to PV often from Seattle and give anywhere from $400-$650. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably book the Alaska flight.
To avoid - changing planes at LAX, the hassles, possibilities for delay, and adding several hours to your total travel time - is well worth $100 IMO.
