Fodor's Travel Talk Forums - Family Trip to Los Cabos: A Report

Even though this was a family trip, we did enjoy the "la hora de feliz" each day. Here goes a quick report.

DH, DD age 12 and I left Sacramento for Los Cabos on Feb. 13. We stayed one week at a timeshare at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. We flew Mexicana, non-stop out of Sacramento which got us to San Jose del Cabo in 3 hours. We did not rent a car, but arranged transport thru the resort. By the time we cleared customs, got our luggage, and got to the resort, it was already 2p.m. The rest of the day was spent eating lunch by the pool, drinking margaritas and settling into the condo.

Pueblo Bonito has 4 resorts in Cabo: Blanco & Rose right in CSL, and Sunset Beach and Pacifica outside of CSL, on the Pacific side of Los Cabos. B & R are very nice and right near the action of CSL. Sunset Beach & Pacifica are away from it all and more secluded. The beaches here are not safe for swimming. All this is fine with us since we like the quiet and beauty of the surroundings. The Pacifica resort is a holistic spa and adults only.

Our second day was spent at the pool. Since that night was Valentine's, I had made reservations by e-mail at Edith's. Expensive, but a very good meal with great atmosphere.

Wed, Feb.15, we took the Pueblo Bonito shuttle bus over to Blanco to use their pool and hang out at Medano Beach. DD got a henna tatoo and we bought junky jewelry on the beach. Later, we took a glass bottom boat out to Los Arcos. It was hokey, but fun. We had dinner at The Office. This turned out not to be an appropriate crowd for our daughter. We ate about 4pm, but most of the crowd had been there all afternoon: drinking, eating, drinking .... There was also a guy dressed like the Frito Bandito pouring shots down peoples throats. Plus there were other x-rated things going on!!! Luckily, our daughter didn't see any of this. I think we just hit the Office too late in the afternoon. If you have children, earlier would be better.

Thurs. Feb. 16: late start, headed to CSL for shopping and DD & I had a massage in town. Much cheaper, $45, than at the resort($100).

Friday, Feb. 17: Fun day -- did a snorkle/catamaran trip to Santa Maria Beach on Pez Gato. Very nice boat, crew, food, drinks. Although the water was cold, everything about this cruise was first rate. Plus we had alot of fun.

The rest of the weekend was spent at Sunset Beach around the pool. We normally ate breakfast in the room, lunch at the pool and lite snacks at night. Our last night in CSL was spent at dinner in town at Mi Casa.

Our check out was Monday, but our flight didn't go out until Tuesday. So we spent our final night in San Jose del Cabo. Got a reasonable room in town at El Encanto Inn. It was nice, but simple compared to Sunset Beach. We had lunch at Damiano's in San Jose. Good. That night we wandered around town and bought some homemade tamales from a woman on the square.

The next day, we had breakfast at a new place called "the South of France". It is a cafe/bakery. Although the food and baked goods were great, service was slow. They were very short handed. We also took a walk later to the "estuary". I'm not sure what we were supposed to see. All we saw was a place locals dump their junk. Perhaps we missed something???

In summary, we had a relaxing time, great weather, food and drink. We look forward to the next trip to Cabo.
