Family friendly restaurants in Playa del Carmen with good food?
 

Anyone have any recommendations for Playa del Carmen restaurants that have good quality, fresh food, that are still kid friendly? Kids are 10 and 7.

The restaurant called La Cieba, which is outside the DAC produce open air produce store about a hlaf block down Calle 30 from Constituyentes is a wonderful fresh food restaurant. It is open for all 3 meals but I like it best for breakfast or lunch. They make all kinds of fresh juice drinks and smoothies. The food is very good, esp. for the price which is very reasonable. Lively place and the kids will love looking in the DAC market, it is very colorful.

For fresh seafood tacos and other fresh seafood tacos, try Los Aguaschiles. Two locations, the newest one is on Constituyentes between 5th Ave and 1st Ave. Incredibly fresh, and lots of great sauces try on the seafood tacos. Healthy optin is to get your seafood tacos as "Los Figurenes", meaning it is wrapped in a lettuce leaf instead of a flour or corn tortilla. YUM, and inexpensive. Both locations are open air w fans.

If you are on 5th Ave. and go by 100% NATURAL restaurant, take your kids in there. It is lovely, has a waterfall inside, and serves very fresh natural foods, juices, smoothies, again it is YUMMY. Great for lunch or light dinner.

If you want a beachfront restaurant, try Zenzi's at the oceanfront and 10th St. (next to the lighthouse at el Frao). Very good and fresh, toes in the sand, thy have music in the evenings.

Also, try this place, Cuevo del Chango, for breakfast or lunch. It is like being in the jungle, but is a straight block up from the beach on 38th St.

In general, you will do better to stay away from 5th Ave for eating (except for 100% natural as above). 10th Ave has lots of good places for tacos, sandwiches (we esp. like the "TORTA AND TACOS" stand across from the bank on 10th Ave. between 8th St and 10th St., great big fresh torta sandwiches to eat there or take to the beach or hotel for about $3 each, fantastic bargain), and pizza. Much less expensive and better than the high prices on 5th Ave.

The TORTAS AND TACOS place I mentioned above is #17 on the list below of best inexpensive places to eat in PDC, so you can see what it looks like before you try to find it.

La Familglia on 10th Ave btwn 10 and 12th St. (across from Coco Bongo) is a very good family style place for pizza and other Italian food. Our favorite for pizza.

Some people will likely mention La Terraya, an inexpensive seafood restaurant on the oceanfront at Calle 2. But I can not recommend it anymore as both my husband and I got very severe food poisoning from eating there a few months ago. That was the only meal we ate together in the 24 hrs before we both got violently ill, so we are sure that is where we got ill. Only time either of us has gotten sick in Playa, and we have owned a condo there for 6 yrs.

A good place for fresh seafood is the restaurant the big lobster outside, on Calle 40, between 5th Ave and 10the Ave. you can not miss the lobster statue, it is bigger than a person. Name is Cockteleria Manigua. You can go in and ask them to show you their fresh fish that they boughtoff the fisherman at the bech down the street that morning, and you can pick which one you want and they will grill it for you. Great shrimp dishes too, and other seafood. They are only open til about 8 pm though so go arly for dinner, or go for lunch.

Cueva del chango looks good....

Ate last week at TiTi Panini, 10th between 10th and 15th. We were looking for a lighter salad dinner and decided to try. It was excellent. Lovely salads and a large selection of sandwiches and paninis. Prices were excellent and everything was very fresh. They even have a salad bar (!) although I'm a little leery of buffet offerings. It's very casual and might be a good choice for an evening for something slightly off the 5th mayhem and excellent food.

Across from Cuevo del Chango is Piole. Good Italian. Wood burning oven for pizzas. You can get half portion pastas.

We are having a new condo built at Terrazas, which is directly next door to Cuevo del Chango, on the side towards the beach. Would love it if you would give us an update on the building if you go to Cuevo.

If you and the kids get a hankering for a good burger or ribs, Texas Burger Company on 5th Ave is surprisingly good. The ribs are awesome, and I am originally from Texas... I know good ribs.

Although I liked the old menu better, for Mexican food you really can not beat Carboncitas, on Calle 4 , just off of 5th Ave, btwn 5th Ave and 10th Ave

Does take reservations and we were told 45 minute wait last week without one. We went else where.

It's been several years, so you may want to confirm my suggestions. However, kind of interesting mistake, first:

The view/location of Senor Frogs drew us in on our first trip (with kids). You probably wouldn't make that mistake, because there are so many better options but: We are having lunch there and a table or so over there is a group of young adults partying. Part of the process was that the young women would do a shot and the female waitress would grab (apparently with consent) the customer's breasts and shake her up. Never seen anything like or since. I of course put in my application immediately. (Kidding). The kids didn't really notice it but it wasn't really the right environment for them (IMHO).

It's been too long since we've been there, but we enjoy Manne's for German food (Kind of hidden on Calle 4th), Playa Maya (a hotel but it did have a restaurant right on the sand, but we only had lunch), and Karen's (right on 5th; sit outside for dinner and feel like you are in the middle of the action). We have also eaten at Rolandi's pizza.

Emd3- went to Cueva del Chango last night, very good. Took pics of your Terrazos condo building. Looks like the exterior structure is nearly done, but nothing on the interior yet. Still lots of work to be done there.

We, family of five (kids ages 14, 12 and 9), stayed on 38th and ate at Cuevo del Chango, Piola, and the Thai restaurant (can't remember its name -- Gua Talam?) All excellent and kid friendly. Cuevo can get crowded, we ate there twice and once had to wait for about 15 minutes. We also ate at AguaChiles which was excellent. Someone mentioned the fish tacos. They are delicious. My kids had both fish and meat tacos there. The calamari was really good as well. We ate at That's Amore on 5th one night. Good italian place, good pizza if you need to balance food options. My oldest will eat/try anything. The other two are a little pickier.
