"a very good price"
Are you fully aware of the FINAL price you will have to pay for your vehicle (and, did you get it all in writing)? The car can seem very reasonable, then you find yourself at the counter being informed of two forms of mandatory insurance coverage, etc., that can add $30/day or more to your bill.
Check with your travel agent, make sure that you have coverage through your major credit card for collision (then you are off the hook for that insurance, and only have to pay the liability). You will have to pay at least liability; make sure that you know that cost in advance. There WILL be a deposit taken on your credit card (sometimes they post a charge, sometimes they just have the card number in case).
If you have your paperwork, proof of collision coverage (downloadable from most credit card sites; they'll direct you to it if you just ask via phone), check/take photos of the car when you pick it up (note ANY issues), you should be ok. It's not the nightmare some say it is, or dishonest; you just have to be an informed consumer.
But, if you've paid a travel agent, they should be happy to inform you of ALL fees and costs, and should have informed you about any additional fees other than the daily rental price.
