Estancia near Buenos Aires
 

My 11 year old daughter and I are interested in staying overnight at an Estancia near Buenos Aires next month. We are both experienced riders and look forward to a good riding experience, but also would like a high end experience experience from a lodging, dining and service standpoint. The 3 estancias listed in the "1000 Places to See Before You Die" book are all now closed. Does anyone have any ideas on where we should go? Many thanks!

The majority of the estancias near Buenos Aires are set up to put on a show for tourists, with a BBQ, a gaucho show featuring the gauchos displaying their prowess on a horse, maybe the opportunity to milk a cow, and ride a wagon or very, very tame horse for a short jaunt.

Dos Hermanos is different. Good food. Good wine(for you, not your 11 year old), good companionship and a horse matched to your abilities. No singing gauchos, I'm afraid....but an excellent, highly reccommended experience.

Very nice...no gaucho shows. They did serve a nice barbeque at lunch and tea in the afternoon. Lovely dinner at night with guests at the estancia. They had a stable of horses and did match our experience to the horse. You could email and get more info regarding their horses.

Both Los Dos Hermanos and La Bamba are probably good choices. Google them and, if you are unable to find them, we'll help.

I would not say these two estancias are very highly rated from this standpoint. Los Dos Hermanos is particularly well-known for the good riding.

I think what AV is trying to say is that many people who post their emails here are trying to sell you something. The rules of this board prohibit advertising or soliciting clients.

Av is uncharacteristically subtle today. He usually just comes right out and says what is on his mind....refreshingly candid you might say.

My husband and I just returned from Argentina. We spent the day at Los Dos Hermanos and really enjoyed it. Neither of us are real horse people, but we spent the day riding (even had us galloping!) and, because there were only 3 of us, we got to help round up the horses at the end of the day. From what we could see and were told, the estancia has horses for all levels of riders and the people there were just lovely. It was a terrific day.

Let's start with the full disclosure, I am NOT related or associated with the owners, and until I read about them on Trip Advisor, I had never heard of the Estancia Dos Hermanos.

That being said, I am glad I did, and add my recommendation that this is a great way to see the countryside on top of a horse.

We spent a day with Ana and Pancho (the owners). I felt throughout the day as if I were visiting a distant cousin, who happened to live in a gorgeous Estancia (as we would say in the Southwest, a Hacienda).

Getting there is easy, they will arrange for transportation from the city for you (depending on your group's size), get you there in time for breakfast and match you to a horse. Although I am a pilot and sailor, I had never been on any animal. Ana was able to provide enough instruction that I was able to (briefly) get "Laguna" to gallop.

That being said, horses need more handles and I have a lot more respect for Polo players! My wife and our compadre Fernando had more sense than me, and they provided a Sulki (horse buggy) that allowed them to experience the countryside with us intrepid horsemen.

Lunch involved some excellent Argentinean beef, and the fireplace (it is winter here in August) provided a place to relax. A truly memorable experience.

A note of caution to repeat what was said in previous postings. While this is very rustic, enchanting, and replicates the experience of life in an Estancia, it is not a tourist show. There is no exhibition of boleadoras, native dance (they call that Tango, go to a show in San Telmo) or whips (enough said!). We’re from Puerto Rico, and can attest that NO ONE from PR wears the dresses you see in the Le Lo Lai ballet at the Caribe Hilton.

All of that being said, next time in BsAs, I will go back to continue my equitation education. She does have a couple of lovely cabins, but you'd have to speak to them about the level of attention while staying in them.
