El Salvador plane change

I am flying SFO to Guatemala with a short layover in El Salvador. Taca. I booked the SFO leg using United miles, but United could not book the Sal-Gua leg. So I booked it myself, separately. Same itinerary.

So - I am presuming that I wont have time to check a bag. Right? Becaue United won't be able to check me all the way through? And therefore I would have to go out to the baggage area and then clear security again before boarding the next flight. That's what I figure.

So I can just do carry-on. But if anyone thinks that I can manage to check a bag and still make my very short connection I will be most interested to hear.

Thank you!

Is the SFO-SAL leg on United or on Taca/Avianca?

If it's the latter, if you haven't already you could call Taca/Avianca up and see if you can combine the itineraries, at least as far as baggage is concerned (shouldn't be impossible).

I would not like your chances one bit of going through immigration and customs and then going through the ticketing, baggage drop off, and security lines in order to make your connecting flight.

If you're flying out on United, I'd just pack everything into a carry-on.

It is Taca all the way. But I think United has to handle this issue. Anyway, agreed. I will be ready with a carryon - and that may be the case anyway. Thanks very much!

If you are going Taca all the way, your bag will be checked through to your destination. We had a 30 min lay over in San Salvador and it was very easy with no stress.

If it's TACA all the way I think you'd deal directly with them. I'd give them a call and see if you can check your bag all the way even though there are two reservations (which should be the only possible hang up since you'd have checked in for both flights already).
