ecolodges in honduras
 

are there any ecolodges in honduras other than the lodge at pico bonito.

especially around the la ceiba area.

Will look into the lodge but want to know what out other options will be if we want to stay in the jungle-ish areas and do the eco tourist stuff.

at the moment there's nothing midrange... you're either paying a fortune at las cascadas/pico bonito or roughing it at jaguar/omega.

Think the mid range is definietly an opportunity in the jungle in the la ceiba region.

We agree that a mid-range place around Pico Bonito would be very successful. We stayed three nights at Lodge at Pico Bonito, and even though Louis, the manager, is trying hard to make the place more personal, it still has a rather corporate feel. It's beautiful, and the rooms are very nice, but it's expensive. The excursions we did were fun, though.

We stayed at the Lodge at Pico Bonito, and realized that we didn't wan to be so isolated from the out side world. We rented a car and drove around until we found something else.
We ended up staying in at Helen's in Sambo Creek, about 20 min from La Ceiba. OUr room had a terrace overlooking the Caribean, private WC. All for $24 a night. They helped us plan a day trip to Cayos Cochinos, a highlight for us.
We spent well over $200 US/ night at LPB. It felt wrong to spand that much money on luxury in an area where you know people don't begin to have what they need.

What about the $1200 you spent for the airfare to get to Honduras?

We stayed at Omega Lodge, linked above, in July and had a wonderful stay there. We stayed in the Creek Cabin which cost $15/night extra for the 2 of us per night - lodging is usually free if you go on daily adventures. If you need air conditioning and private bathrooms, you wouldn't like it, but we LOVED IT. The food was excellent as were the guides, the rafting, the horseback riding and the kayaking. Happy trails...

Its my understanding that Omega has some better cabins and they are great people. There is also Villa Rhina which is a bit more upscale but a bit further out of town.

The suites at Omega are gorgeous in a funky, artsy way - lots of handmade railings, stairs, furniture, creatively tiled bathrooms, etc. The views are gorgeous, too.
