Driving USA to Guatemala

I'm moving to Guatemala soon with my two ESA (Dachshunds) and have a 2006 Subaru Outback that I have had gone thru from front to back.
Does anyone know about a caravan or website that I should post on?
I'm happy to rideshare (room for 2 more) with someone who has made the trip from TX to Guatemala.
My dates are very flexible Aug-Sept 2016

Thanks,
Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Just be aware that there are blockades by the teacher's unions in Oaxaca and Chiapas (and to a lesser extent Guerrero state) due to an ongoing dispute over the education reforms. I read that they were set up again today. Type "bloqueo Chiapas" to get information.

When I was there at the end of June, encampments were set up at the Guatemalan border with Chiapas at Talismán. There were 2 blockades also on the Pacific Coast highway in Chiapas also. To get from Tapachula to Guatemala, I had to catch a cab to the blockade, walk past the tents and catch a motorized cart to immigration and then Tica Bus. It took me 9 hours to get from Arriaga to Tapachula, which ordinarily takes 2 1/2 hours. I understand there are similar problems in San Cristobal de las Casas area and Tuxtla also.

All to say keep a close eye what's going on Chiapas and Oaxaca states...you really don't want to get stuck. I haven't heard of any trouble in Tabasco state...might be a better option into Guatemala until things settle down.

Best wishes. Daniel
