driving to sunscape tulum?

We are considering staying at the Sunscape Tulum Riviera Maya but we are a bit concerned about the distance from the hotel to the resort since we will be travelling with our 16 month old son. We are thinking of renting a car but we have never driven in Mexico before. Is it difficult to drive there? Any suggestions? Since the resort is so far south, we figured having the car might come in handy to visit different sites. Thanks for your advice!

Hi:

If you fly into Cancún, you can rent a car with any of the well know rental car companies and drive to the Tulum area. Driving there is not a problem and itīs the best way of transportation. There are always good service buses but you donīt have to be concern about driving there. t would be a different story if you talk about Mexico City.

Good luck

I just returned from a week in Mexico. We rented a car and had no problems driving around. Highway 307 (the highway next to Tulum) is very easy to drive.

From where you are staying, you are a quick drive to Coba, the Sian Ka'an Bioreserve, Xel-Ha, Xcaret and Playa del Carmen. We used Executive (www.executive.com.mx) and the car performed admirably given the driving that we did.

Make sure you take your car seat. The rental ones that I've seen have been kind of grungy and out-dated.
