Driving through Mexico to get to Belize (Corozal)
 

I am moving from Vancouver, BC to Corozal, Belize, and I plan on driving there late July, early August.
Any advise that fellow travellers can give me would be much appreciated. eg
Which border crossing should I take from US into Mexico.
Which route would you advise.
What are the dangers and pitfall I should know about.

I've done quite a bit of research, but I'd like to start this thread "fresh" to get new, hopefully better, ideas.

From Vancouver might shoot down to Vegas Nogales

pick up Panamericana to Mexico City Chetumal Belize City.

Have done this twice fair amount of hassle theft bribery

Had to keep my wits about me...took an old van camper

worth a few hundred dollars everyone pretty much left me alone

I'm not familiar with the Belize forums, but definitely check the specific destination forums over at Trip Advisor. I know for the places I go in Mexico (PV, Cabo) there's a very knowledgeable and helpful group of regular posters. You need to phrase it as a travel question there though, they don't allow posts about relocation and permanent moves.

I have friends who drive from Calgary to Belize every year. Most times they haven't had problems, but, they did have an unsettling experience last year, where the husband was put in a room with several police officers and asked for money...He said it was plenty scary....
