Driving through Mexico to Belize
 

Hello everyone! So my Girlfriend and I are planing a trip through Mexico. She is fluent in spanish while myself is learning (beginner side). any input is welcome as well as place to go and not to to go.
our plans in simple form

our first stop Sayulita where we would be staying with a friend
then Hidalgo grutas tolantongo
then Chiapas ,San Cristobal De Las Casas to Agua Azule to Palenque
then Quintana Roo and Belize.

We plan to the boarder early at Nogales and cross making it to Hermosillo before dark. from here were not so sure due to the hype were hearing about Sinaloa. We know not to drive at night and stay on the tole roads. So input from Hermosillo to Sayulita would be great.

Our next destination from Sayulita is the state of Hidalgo. Is it safe to drive, where should we stay along the way? anything welcome!

and from Hidalgo to Chiapas. same questions as above.

From Chiapas to Tulum I've read good things however if you have anything to say please do, such as places to stop at or avoid

Random thoughts.
Your actual driving times will invariably take longer than you estimate. Figure about 20% more to be conservative.
Budget per day? Time frame?
Lodging along the toll roads is rare, you'll likely need to venture into city centers along the way which may make it easy to get lost, thus more time.
Morelia is a good halfway point between Sayulita and Tonlantongo.
Be aware that the lodges at Tolantongo do not accept reservations, so if possible plan on being there midweek or on camping.
You'll be driving in or close to some of the most beautiful parts of Mexico that few tourists get to experience because they don't have a car, such as the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz. Don't rush it if you don't have to.

everything worked out great! Never got in trouble, payed a bribe or lost anything. Hit a few topes pretty hard but that was it! Sayulita to veracruz to Chiapas to the Yucatan to Quintana Roo to Placencia Belize! were still unpacking but when were done well add up all the toll road fees and let you guys now how much the trip was from nayarit to Quintana Roo.
